Hi folks,

I have just built my first hackintosh. I went with the board above and installed Sierra using the guide here. I spent the whole day trying to get a decent resolution on my 4K monitor. I have read dozens of posts. I'm not too up on the very technical side of this. My onboard graphics are intel so after a lot of reading I got a Kext utility and added the intel 4000 kext to my machine.

I can't boot now. I assume I messed everything up. Nightmare because I spent two days installing music software on it.

I am happy enough to start from scratch but can anyone tell me how to get a high resolution from this board. Best I could get was 1080p.

Is the answer simply, buy a decent graphics card?

Cheers

Update, reinstalled and before I add any graphics config I have 4K resolution. When I add Intel HD 530. I'm back to the 1080p maximum. I choose HD 530 because it was saying thats what my onboard is in my system report.

Tried the HD3000, back to system f**ked. Will go again from scratch tomorrow as it's approaching 5am. Really hoping I don't end up running Windows 10. Just with the low res, my screen real estate is not where I need it to be for production work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can no longer reach the installation files now since installing the HD3000 drivers. Has no one here got any suggestions? I have tried to do this myself before bothering people here.

Update - With some clover config I'm back to installing.

Any Luck with your install?

Yeah, I pretty much have everything working except Bluetooth. I got the BCM20702. Didn't work out of the box so using wired keyboard for the moment.

I have that exact motherboard. If you update the firmware (easy!) so far, OOB with Sierra 10.12.2 it supports 1080, 4K 30 or 60fps, and 5K 25, 30 or 60fps with no special settings. I did have to configure Clover so it's faking an iMac (27-inch, Late 2013).

I then installed a Radeon R9 280X and literally got 10x the gfx performance, so it is a worthy upgrade.

Cheers, I must look at upgrading the BIOS. Thanks for sharing!

Where are you having problems? I don't have time at the minute to post my whole process but if there's a part you are stuck on, post your issue and I'll help if I can.
