[SOLVED] Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080/1070

Gave up on macOS for now, using Ubuntu 16.04. Unity is really nice and I'm about to get the GTX-1080 installed tomorrow. I'm not sure I'll head back to macos on this system, but after I just got a iPad Pro, I can see the polish and enjoyment on that platform. It really feels like we are not too fa from a "desktop" iPad.

I feel ya aokman! I am in a similar predicament - heavily invested in Apple (software AND hardware) but several machines are now outdated and the two primary ones are (a) DEAD! and (b) unreliable... about to die any time.

So I have moved to Workstation with (ta-da) a 1060GPU (power and efficiency) - but then stone me, bloody nVidia does not support them despite this unified driver architecture theyŕe always bragging about.

Of course, I have GNU+Linux boxes to fall back on (this is a Mate 16.04 station) but some of my software ONLY runs on node-locked Mac licenses and/or is only available for Macs. This is infuriating and even Windows is not a viable option even if I was prepared to go that route (which Iḿ not).

Ever since Steve Jobs got poorly, the firm has gone to hell and from what Iḿ seeing, things are only getting worse. You can only rely on your reputation and customer good will for so long before people start looking elsewhere.

Unless I've missed something, I'm having to physically disconnect the 1080 for my 950 to be the one used by Mac, so this isn't a long term solution either :( Maybe a need to change mother boards so I can at least switch one off in the bios.

So NVIDIA is basically 100 percent now happening in the next year or more? Is it safe to sell my 1070 without risking a web driver being released right after? I also dont understand why NVIDIA needs Apples help to make a driver. Do you think every other app/device that exists that works in Mac had a driver made with the help from apple?

netkas: first beta driver for 10.12.2 beta https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/367/WebDriver-367.15.10.25b06.pkg Maybe with Pascal support? Can anyone do a test?

Here are the drivers from that pkg- no additional Pascal kext-

This is what's been worrying me, as I'm considering going to either 980Ti SLI or 1080. How does one tell macOS to run off the Maxwell card? Someone on page 130 said it's possible, and even to have both cards plugged in to the same monitor and then just change the display mode on the monitor when switching OS. So you don't even have to mess about with switching cables - that would be great if true. Maybe someone else can share their experiences?
