TLDR;
I have removed a HDD from a broken MacBook,
I need to boot this HDD on a Dell OptiPlex, is this at all possible?

Hello,
I have got my self in a rather awkward situation.
I am a final year Computer Science student and I am working on a professional project.
Unfortunately the MacBook pro I was using to work on this project has decided to die on me.

My project is OSX dependant, plus I want to save my self the utter ball ache of reinstalling of the software.
I removed the HDD from the MacBook and I have also purchased a SATA to USB converter.
This works great I am able to access my files on other OSX machines, however I cannot boot from this drive on these Machines because the University require Admin permission to do soo.. alas I'm in a pickle.

I have been given use of a Dell OptiPlex, I also have a custom built PC at home (I would rather use the Dell).
I am just wondering if it is at all Possible to run OSX on this Dell OptiPlex and continue with my project...
I tried today by simply plugging the HDD using the USB to SATA converter however the Dell does not recognise the HDD as a bootable device.

I have seen guides using a USB partition to install OSX and then I'm thinking I can just select my HDD as a boot drive once I have OSX running from the USB?

Please help?

thanks

Go to eBay, buy a used 2011-2013 Macbook/Pro ($300-$500), and connect your old HDD.

Why do you need to boot the old HDD? Why not just install the application software on the Mac and access your project files?

Yep. You can just install FakeSMC into L/E for 10.11+ or S/L/E for 10.10 older.

You're kidding right? If that was the case we would have never needed Chameleon, Chimera, or Clover...
