Thx for your reply!:) The inverter is working properly as far as I can see, the lights do go on when I plug the power cord in, the brightness control pin is disconnected, that means full backlight right?

Something has run amok with your soldering likely. Heres a link to some photos of how I achieved a solid connection, using the wire leads clipped off some resistors, then sealed firmly with JB Kwik Weld which is 100% non-conductive.

I used this method on my last two A1076 builds that I completed for other family members. It was easier and much more secure (less fragile) than the first build I did. Wish I'd known sooner.

Happy to report the iMac took 10.12.1 like a champ.

Everything works great.

Back in January I purchased an absolutely pristine iMac G5 A1076 20" and a BNIB NUC D54250WYK on Craigslist, on the same day!

Spent the last couple of months working on another build. Everything works great, including stereo Apple Chime at startup. I'll add details to this post when I get time. The new system is running 10.13.4 now.

Thx carl. This is my 4th one of these A1076 units. In my opinion, they're the primo iMac to mod. Nothing touches them.

I made one significant breakthrough in this one, in that I found a way to isolate the USB ports from each other and re-use them by soldering to the leads on the backside of the board. Saved a TON of work in re-aligning new ports to the rear I/O as I did in the previous builds of this unit. Wish I'd known sooner. I'll post how I did it in a day or two.

Cant wait to read it. I think you are right about the A1076. Right now trying to mod this 20" G4 and very frustrating. I cant seem to get to the finish line, always facing some obstacle. Taking way too much time. I want to get to that 24" one.
