Sierra: Z170X-UD5 TH: No Audio on Green Rear Audio jack

Ok. I was able to resolve my issue by doing the following:

- Installed a fresh installation of Sierra on a spare drive I had laying around.
- After booting into my fresh install via the USB installer, I fired up MultiBeast 9.0.0 and installed Quick Start-> UEFI Boot Mode including Clover v2.3..., FakeSMC..., System Definition iMac 14,2, plus I added ALC1150 and 100 Series Audio from the Drivers->Audio tab. Clicked Build, Install.
- Rebooted directly from my freshly installed Sierra with Nvidia drivers disabled (nv_disable=1) to avoid any video problems
- Checked my System Preferences -> Sound and I could not select any output devices.
- Installed the Nvidia web drivers for Sierra build 16A323 and rebooted
- Checked my System Preferences -> Sound thinking I would have to fire up the audio_cloverALC-120_v1.0b0 script but now i could select my output devices including Internal Speakers. I also could hear audio perfectly without the static from the rear audio jack.
- Thinking I had a good config.plist file I could swap with my misbehaving installation of Sierra, I rebooted back to my original drive.
- Checking my System Preferences -> Sound showed the correct output devices AND audio could be heard without the static issue on the rear audio jack.

My hunch: I'm betting that the installing of the Nvidia web drivers rebuilt the kext caches or something else that MultiBeast did not on the fresh install. This in turn reset the audio hardware to work when I rebooted back into my original configuration. Regardless, I'm good to go now. Thanks @In-N-Out and @jrii for the help and pointers.

I tried this complete process and did not work for me still having crackling sound but do see 4 options one being internal speakers and that's where I get crackling from. Any other suggestions? P.s I used exact same bios as you for multibeast. I also tried the other guys method and that didn't work either.

What worked for me was first installing Multibeast 9 with my build options which included the Realtek 1150 and 100 for Audio. After completing that build and install I rebooted. At this point I still had no devices listed in my Sound Output. I then ran the audio_cloverALC-120_v1.0b0.command and then rebooted. That now gave me device listings in my Sound Output but I was still missing an Internal Speakers listing. I then re-ran Multibeast 9 once again choosing all my correct build options including once again the Realtek 1150/100 then proceeded to build and install followed by a reboot. At this point I now had Internal Speakers as the first choice in Sound Output, and sound was working out of the rear panel green jack to my powered speakers. I'm sure it's a round about way of getting there but it worked.

Hey I tried this method to fix issue but I still have crackling sound out of my green audio port going through internal speakers. I also tried other guys method with fresh install and still didn't work any other suggestion?

I'm currently back sitting with the crackling audio from green rear audio jack. After getting it working on another drive and booting back to my original install, it was working again. Now after using the working system for a couple of days, I'm finding that the audio drops back to the original problem. I've set the computer to sleep never and my display to sleep after 15 minutes. It seems that after a period of time when I come back to the computer, the audio issue returns.

Currently troubleshooting a way to restore audio on the fly or fix permanently.

1) Tried just rebooting (no help)
2) Tried inserting headphones in front jack (audio works from there) and unplugging headphones. (no help again)
3) Tried installing the AppleALC kext using KextBeast and rebooting. (long shot prayer... no help again).

I know this sounds crazy, but if you have also Windows installed on the same machine you could try uninstalling or upgrading the sound drivers there. This was was the case with some Asus MB's.

Thanks for the tip @jrii . I rebooted back into Windows 10 and installed the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.7727 64-bit drivers from Gigabyte's web site. This upgraded the default Microsoft drivers for me. Audio working fine in Windows 10. Rebooted back into macOS Sierra and same audio issue. I also tried installing the NVIDIA WebDriver release 367.15.10.05f01.pkg hoping that the installer would kick the log jam for audio and make things work again after the reboot. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I see others with the same issue with similar motherboards in this thread. I'm going to work to pull the Problem Reporting information requested by @toleda and see if we can figure out a solution.

Was able to get help in this thread from @toleda. Recommended switching speakers to black audio port from green audio port. Bingo! Audio was good from this port after selecting the 2nd Line Out output in the Sound PreferencesPane. The issue with Green port is an EAPD problem. For Fix, see RehabMan/EAPD-Codec-Commander. This is:

"Used for updating EAPD (External Amplifier) state on HDA (High Definition Audio) codecs that use given amp on Speaker or Headphone nodes (both, or even extra ones in some cases). In OS X EAPD gets powered down across sleep so audio remains non functional after waking the machine up."

yes...thanks.
Same problem here with same MB (Tonymac MacPro hardware config)
But with another solution. It works for me.
Extract a fresh and new AppleHDA.kext from the installer with Pacifist.
Install it properly with Kext Utility.
Restart your computer
Open Multibeast 9.01 and just re install Realtek codecs as required (ALC150 and 100 Series Audio)
Restart
Now, run the script "audio_cloverALC-120_v1.0d" and only this one! not the hdmi one.
Restart
Now, you should have all the codecs on your Sound SysPrefs...select your line out 1 or 2 (here it's ok with green and/or black output, and all is very clear and clean).

(just for info, but I don't know if it's so important, I ran Windows 8.1 on another disk and installed all the Gigabyte's MB disk utilities and driver for the soundcard, GC, etc...)

;)

I tried most of the suggestions given out here, and the only reliable source of audio is still the front panel headphone jack. I threw in the towel and just connected my creative speakers to the headphone jack! It's not ideal but it works.

Here's what worked for me. Initially ran audio_cloverALC-120_v1.0d with:

Use Audio ID: 3 (y/n): y -> no audio for Internal Speaker; audio for Headphone

Reran audio_cloverALC-120_v1.0d with:

Use Audio ID: 3 (y/n): n
Audio IDs
1 - 3/5/6 port Realtek ALC onboard audio
2 - 3 port (5.1) Realtek ALC onboard audio
3 - 3/5/6 port Realtek ALC onboard audio with HD3000/HD4000/HD5xx HDMI audio only
Select Audio ID: 1

Now have audio on both Internal Speaker (rear panel green plug) and Headphone (front panel).
