Working: Gigabyte GC-Thunderbolt 2 on Skylake (mostly)

I flashed my Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5 with the above BIOS and the system no longer boots.
Seems the dualBIOS wont repair itself either despite me trying to force the process.
I did also reset the CMOS via the onboard jumper.
I've RMA'd that one. Complete bummer as I'd only just got it working. That'll teach me (again!)
I had previously flashed it with the F5B BIOS so no previous problems flashing.

Anyhow, I just thought I'd warn anyone else who was considering doing it that perhaps it's not worth the pain right now.

Oh no! That sounds really bad. I am so sorry to hear that. I have it on my board, but I went from the F4 version. I also installed on a friend's Hackintosh without any glitches.
 
No problem, I guess it's not the file that's the issue because the BIOS update process checks the validity before flashing so it's just one of those things that can happen.
I'm more annoyed with the board really. I'm not as happy with Gigabyte as I am with the Asus stuff I've had.

Hmm...I've got a Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5 system that boots fine with the F4 bios it came with, but when I load this bios it hangs during boot (Apple logo displayed, line under it remains empty). When running verbose mode on clover, I can see that it hangs on the broadcom airport driver (or if I remove my AC1900 card, it hangs on MB(memory buffer allocation). This behavior is exhibited regardless of whether the Thunderbolt card is actually installed in the machine and regardless of whether Thunderbolt is enabled or disabled in the bios. Reverting back to the original bios...works fine. Any ideas?

Ok, solved my own problem. In case anyone runs into it...needed to set Chip Features->IOAPIC 24-119 to disabled in the bios. Now the system boots...next issue: Mac OS still says: Thunderbolt: No drivers loaded.

Hi,

This is my 1st post on the forum. I am looking around since I am a Mac addict but think my next computer could be a powerful micro-ATX Hackintosh instead of an iMac.

Have you tried to activate natively Thunderbolt 3 on your motherboard, i.e. over the USB 3.1 type-C port right on the MB, instead of trying to get the GC-Thunderbolt 2 add-on card to work?

Gigabyte has indeed given the possibility to activate Thunderbolt 3 (backward compatible with Thunderbolt 1 & 2 over the mini-DP form-factor port with an adapter such as this new one from Apple) for all its motherboards having an Alpine Ridge controller and a USB-C port, including your GA-Z170MX-Gaming 5.

Three things are mandatory (the order is important) for your MB:
1- Update the BIOS to the latest version (F5e or F20b are the latest for now)
2- Install the Thunderbolt driver in Windows
3- Install the USB3.1 FW Update Tool utility in Windows

Both steps 2 & 3 must be performed within a 64-bit Windows version (7, 8 or 10), otherwise TB3 will never be activated.
I'll look forward to seeing a Hackintosh and especially an Apple Thunderbolt Display working on those TB-updated Gigabyte motherboards!
