I know, I know. I, too, am in a hurry up and wait state. Unfortunately, I'm of the opinion that Nvidia will release the drivers when Sierra debuts.

Guess Ill get a 970 or 980 since they are more or less as fast as the 1060 and are the same price used.

Just got a GTX 980 SC for $265 through a forum! should be just as fast or faster than the 1060 for the same price.
Glad I checked here before I pulled the trigger on a 1060!

Hi everybody i have a question about the graphic card GTX 1080. Is this at the moment possible to install it or how long we have to wait for the kexte?

regards

Tamala

Can i use the igpu with the 1080 or will i need another HDMI cable? will it be able to push video and audio though the 1080

No one knows. Should be when Cuda 8 drops. That will be 1-2 more months.

Maxwell compatible drivers were not released until October.

The only problem when using using IGpu is that you can't achieve 1440p or 4k at 60hz, unless you have a displayport connection on your motherboard (OS X won't allow that via HDMI)... And that's a big problem for me.

Actually, you can have El Capitan work perfectly fine with everything functioning pretty much 100% with a pascal GPU installed in the motherboard. I know this because this is exactly how I have my build. I have Skylake 6700K in my build right now with a GTX 1080 that I use only for windows. All you have to do is set the primary graphics card in the motherboard BIOS to the iGPU, and El Capitan will run with full acceleration without any issues on the iGPU, and every time I boot into Windows I simply switch the HDMI port from the motherboard to the GTX 1080. Surprisingly, it worked a lot better than I thought it would.

I do the same too and it works perfectly. Thinking about getting a DisplayPort switch, but they're kind of pricey ($60-80). I don't mind switching DisplayPorts for now.

Hopefully nVidia comes through with the drivers soon, would like to disable iGPU. Although surprisingly the HD530 iGPU is fairly speedy for most of what I do under OS X.

BTW connected to a 27" Apple Cinema Display (Glossy screen, non-thunderbolt version) via miniDisplay Port to Display Port adapter.
