Hi all, I just tried this for the first time and everything is working great on El Capitan except for audio! It's driving me nuts! VoodooHDA just says "no VoodooHDA devices installed"

Given the number of differing models with different CPUs/boards it is impossible to advise you without more detailed information on the hardware of your particular Dell. Use the Device manager in Windows and find info on CPU model, audio chipset, networking chipset at the minimum.

I managed to eventually get it working.

It's an Optiplex 7010 i5 3470 with a gtx670 installed.

It turned out that I obviously had some conflicting kexts because after having a clear out and reinstalling the Voodoo patch it started to work. Although I have to turn the input gain down at every boot.

My problem now is that sometimes the USB ports work and other times they don't. Whenever I have to restart my system I have to randomly plug and unplug USBs at every boot until it starts working. It seems so random and I can't figure it out.

Any ideas?

Fix Ownership fixed it in the end..

Hello every one. I see this post is old but, i wonder if any one out there is trying this dell configuration with the ML setup because i want to do it but with another OS X version.
Well i tried doing the El Capitan set up but i keep getting this, i believe its a "kernel panic?" I have already disabled al the VT items in bios and wonder if this has anything to do with El Capitan. I also tried creating Unibeast with ML but i keep getting this error stating it is unable to make the USB. The ML OS is a store purchase in the app store and so is my El Capitan OS.
Is there any way that i can get El Capitan working the Optiplex 7010? If so, please get back to my reply and or post that i recently creating.
Thanks in advance,

Rico Sands210.

has anyone tried to install El Capitan?

Anyone attempted to install Sierra on an OptiPlex 7010 yet? I need some help.

Does your machine configuration have a graphics card? Or is it using integrated graphics?

Sierra installs and runs well on the Optiplex 7010 USFF (Ivy Bridge i5-3475S with Intel HD 4000 graphics).

The machine currently boots very slowly (takes about 75 seconds from an SSD drive to get to the login screen) but I have yet to try any DSDT and SSDT patching. The video flickers a few times during the initial login but it's smooth after that. I believe there is a DSDT patch to fix this. About This Mac shows Intel HD Graphics 4000 with 1536MB memory. I believe QE/CI is active. For ethernet support, I installed the IntelMausiEthernet.kext (latest version) via MultiBeast.

I have yet to get the built-in audio output jack to work. I tried toleda's script (audio_cloverALC-120.command) and setting audio to the Realtek ALC269 but that didn't work. I then tried installing the VoodooHDA driver (via Multibeast) but that's not working either. Maybe I have to restore the original AppleHDA.kext before VoodooHDA.kext starts working?

My temporary/possibly final solution when it comes to audio is to use of an external USB 2.0 stereo (C-Media chipset) audio adapter that I have lying around (SYBA SD-CM-UAUD which retails for under $10). I plug it in, it's automatically detected and is listed as an available sound output device. Alternatively, I can also route audio using a USB Bluetooth dongle to a wireless Bluetooth speaker.

Install hints:
- use UniBeast to create a UEFI USB installer thumb drive
- disable the serial port, virtualization features and legacy boot in the BIOS
- boot the USB installer thumb drive in UEFI mode
- in Clover, change the boot Options to check off (i.e. enable) these two settings before booting into the installer or macOS Sierra:
PCI Devices -> USB Ownership, USB Injection

I hope that helps.

Quick update on the audio.

The built-in speaker and rear audio jack are now working 100% on macOS Sierra thanks to VoodooHDA.

With a fresh install of macOS Sierra:

Select and install the latest VoodooHDA drivers in Multibeast (and ignore the Realtek ALC269 drivers)

OR

Download and install VoodooHDA-2.8.8.pkg (downloaded from sourceforge.net). Reboot and test to see if the audio is working. If not, update VoodooHDA.kext to v2.8.9 (also available from sourceforge.net), repair permissions and rebuild the cache using a tool like Kext Wizard.

---

If you previously messed around with AppleHDA.kext and VoodooHDA.kext like me, then you'll need to clean things up before installing the VoodooHDA package.

I had to delete and copy back the original /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext to undo the changes made by audio_cloverALC-120.command.

I then installed VoodooHDA-2.8.8.pkg (downloaded from sourceforge.net). Ran Kext Wizard to repair permissions and rebuild the cache for /S/L/E. However, a pop up window appeared stating VoodooHDA.kext was invalid. So I deleted VoodooHDA.kext from both /Library/Extensions and /S/L/E. I then re-installed the newest version of VoodooHDA.kext (i.e. VoodooHDA.kext-289.zip on sourceforge.net) to /S/L/E using Kext Wizard. Finally, use Kext Wizard to repair the permissions and rebuild the cache for /S/L/E. Reboot and like magic, all the different sound output and input options suddenly appear.
