Hello,

I am completely new to building my own PC. A beginner to Hackintosh and a white belt to software installation. After hours of struggling to get past the frozen Apple logo on the installation process, I ran into another ordeal.

I recently purchased a Samsung 950 Pro M.2 (512g) after doing extensive research, with the intention of setting it as my boot drive. I know I installed it correctly because it shows up in my BIOS (GA-Z170xp SLI Motherboard).

After using Clover in a USB (UNIBEAST), I get to the "select language tab" on El Capitan. I choose English and then I am directed into the next screen where I click disk utility.

HERE'S where I run into the issue:

When selecting which drive I would like to install El Capitan on, my M.2 drive doesn't show up as an option. Only the USB and my 3 terabyte seagate hard drive I got so save files on.

Can anyone help me (in the simplest/most detailed way possible) on how to go about setting my 950 pro as a boot drive for El Capitan on my PC? Or any alternatives as to how to go about getting El Capitan on the m.2 drive?

Thanks

IIRC you need to have the NVMe driver kext installed on the Clover USB boot device. Grab it here:

http://www.macvidcards.com/nvme-driver1.html

Add it to the Clover kexts folder.

Remember to do the same for your (Clover) EFI boot drive once you've installed OSX :¬)

Thank you so much for replying!! Okay, this is going to sound ridiculous but keep in mind I'm like a toddler when it comes to this stuff. Where is the Clover kexts folder in the USB I installed it in? Would I just drag the link you sent me in the USB?

After all that is done, how would I go about getting the m.2 to show as an option to install El Capitan on it? Will it pop up because the kext is now in the flash drive?

Actually, before then, what system definition are you using for the install?
I'm using Clover on a USB drive to install El Capitan

Assuming you have a Mac to do this...

1. Download EFI Mounter: http://www.tonymacx86.com/resources/efi-mounter-v3.280/
2. Plug your bootable USB install drive in
3. Open Terminal and type: diskutil list
4. Look for the USB drive (the name you gave it). Double check by noting the size on the right.
5. Note the /dev/diskX number of the USB drive. On my computer, it's /dev/disk3
6. Run EFI Mounter
7. Select the disk number you noted (ignore the s1 postfix)
8. Press the Mount button

You now have the USB drive EFI boot partition mounted. Navigate to:

EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.11

Drop the NVMe driver kext in there. Then drop the EFI Mounter app in the root of the USB drive.

You should be able to see the drive on the install. Once El Capitan is installed, DO NOT REBOOT. Start from Step 3 and repeat for the OSX system drive using the Mounter you dropped onto the USB root folder. Place the driver in the same folder above, although this time you've installed it to the boot partition for your M.2 drive.

Thank you I was able to do all those steps on my mac with the flash drive connected, but when I went to eject, only the USB ejected and not the EFI partition. When I went to eject the EFI, it said "the disk "EFI" wasn't ejected because one or more programs may be using it" but that's not the case because no apps are open at all. Would you by any chance have a solution to that as well?

Just reboot your Mac. I've had this error with other applications and data files and .dmg files not closing properly. Rebooting corrects this problem.

Thank you for your help! This worked perfectly.
