Move from Mavericks/Multibeast to El Capitan Advice

I've read through all of the basic and quick start threads, but I'm having trouble deciding on if I should do my clean install of El Cap using Clover or Multibeast. As the title suggests, I'm sitting on Mavericks with a Multibeast post-install. It was relatively easy. But, I've read in some places that Clover allows for easier OS updates moving forward - I like that idea. Can someone point to a pros and cons thread (or list them here) regarding choosing one post install method over the other?

I believe my hardware will show in my signature. If not, I'll be back to edit this post.

If you want to use El Capitan then there is no choice, Clover works and Chimera doesn't.
You can install Clover with MultiBeast.
I would suggest cloning your hard drive and then upgrading on the clone.
If it all goes wrong you can still fall back to your original installation.

A good place to start would be a non-destructive Clover test install using this guide :

Once you have Clover installed and working the upgrade path will be a lot smoother.

Thanks for the direction. I think I'm missing something...

I read through the link regarding test driving clover, which installs to a USB. I'm assuming I boot through the USB on my existing Mavericks install just to see if the system is okay with Clover.

I also read through the other link for direct updating to El Cap once I am a "user of Clover". At what point do I install (and where is the how-to on that) Clover to my existing Mavericks system drive? Or am I missing the idea here?

Okay. I re-read both links. Link #1 installs clover to a USB so I can test drive clover on my system that doesn't have clover on its system drive by booting my existing Mavericks install from the Clover USB. Is this correct?

Link #2 starts with - "Established Clover users on OS X Yosemite" - Well, at this point I'm not an established clover user even with Clover on a USB, nor am I on Yosemite, but I'll keep reading anyway. Then I get to "Open Clover configuration folder on the root of your system" - I don't have a Clover configuration folder on my system drive. Is this what I need to have existing?

if so, if someone can clear up how I get clover on my system after the Clover USB test drive is successful, so that I can follow link #2, I would appreciate it.

You make a Clover test usb and when you have everything running well you can install Clover to your hard drive with the same settings as you had on the USB.

Then you install the operating system version of your choice over the top of your existing installation.
You just don't format the hard drive and that way all of your data, apps and settings are preserved.

Make sure that you have a backup of everything before you even think about doing it.

Three hours later I've only gotten to the gray screen of nothingness. I've tried UEFI and Legacy just for kicks. I get a lot of SSD activity after selecting the system drive, screen goes gray, and the SSD activity light stops. Is there a support thread here just for the Test USB process?

UPDATE: I used nv_disable=1 and got in to the existing Mavericks install, but the screen is shrunk down like it normally is during a normal boot. The difference is, the original boot expands the screen (or makes it the correct size) once I get to the login screen. With clover, the screen never snaps in to the full size of the monitor.
