[Updated] Stork's Thunderbolt Build: i5-3570K | GA-Z77X-UP5-TH | GTX 760

Worked through ReHabMan's "10.11 USB changes..." guide and installed FakePCIID_XHCIMux and FakePCIID to s/l/e via Kextbeast and...

getting 125 mb/s write and 120 mb/s read from my 5200 rpm USB3 drive on both my front bused ports and on the top USB3 ports on the panel direct. Calling it good for now.

F12j does have sleep issues and I, also, no longer put my Hack to sleep :(

However, one of the greatest improvements is the response time at the boot screen. Once you see the "Hit DEL..." or similar notice you can actually hit DEL and the BIOS comes up almost instantly! With F11 I had to hit keys multiple times hoping that one of them would be registered.

I have Bios F12 and 1 single HD4000 driven Apple Thunderbolt display setup and tried to install Clover / El Capitan on a new SSD using Stork's post and Tonymacx86's guide. In the end he install succeeded but I have remaining problems about which I have been reading about on the forums and trying to fix them for about 2 weeks now and am about to give up. My remaining issues are:
1) Clover resolution
The clover menu is almost unreadable, my Thunderbolt display shows 5 Clover menu images overlapping. Only by guessing I can select El Capitan. I have set Clover to boot from my "El Capitan" volume by default, as a emergency fix for the unreadable Clover menu.
Flashing BIOS to F12J did the trick: Clover menu looks awesome

2) Sleep/Wakeup
Still not working OK. Wakeup does not wake up my Thunderbolt display. I thought I fixed this by enabling "Wake from Thunderbolt devices" in the BIOS but this was not the (complete) solution. This BIOS setting causes OS X to keep repeating "USB devices disabled. Unplug the device using too much power to re-enable USB devices". I have a Corsair CX 430W power supply which should be enough for a system running on HD4000 graphics (i.e. without extra graphics card).
What keeps puzzling me is that when I boot my Yosemite drive I don't have any USB power issues......

Yesterday I upgraded to 10.11.3: installed the update from the Appstore and only upgraded Clover to the latest version using Multibeast. All seems to work OK, USB disabled issue unchanged as expected.

Did a fresh install El Capitan 10.11.3(from Yosemite).

Used alternative method in general install instructions. Didn't install audio as I use a USB to analog thumb thing - I can ever remember the right audio kext! Bios f11.

Running Dell 27" off a Geforce 670(?)using DP and an Apple 27" TB off the MB TB. FT, TB, FW & USB are working on the Apple display , though my past experience is they stop after sleep - the display will wake though. iMessage working (it had stopped working a ways back under Mavericks after jumping through hoops initially getting it working) Had to do the SYSID thing and a few more hoops but it's working now under clover.

All USB 3 ports are working, system report list them as 3.o(not sure if they are functioning at 3.0 speeds) & both USB 2 ports on back function. Only the 2 front USB 2 post are DOA, but we knew that. No sleeping, I tried the trick mentioned to push the power button twice (or something like that) but the mouse gets laggy (I'm kingston wireless). I did noticed the MB LED displays "03", even after waking - if I remember correctly which means sleep - so maybe technically it never really wakes from sleep with this trick.

Having initially used Chimera for this build I was fairly intimidated by the prospects of Clover but have to say it was quite painless and glad I did it. Really wanted to get iMessage working and Clover evidently makes that easier.

I think the only thing I need is trim enabled on my boot SSD. A search of how to mentioned something called "trimforce" using Terminal. Not sure how to enable it, can someone post the terminal command? There was mention of an issue with it displaying the correct icons?

just my experience....

In the Terminal, type (or copy & paste) this command:
Code:
sudo trimforce enable
At the prompt, input your password.

I have been using Mavericks & Yosemite with f11 without issue. All USB ports work as does USB3

My problems started when I loaded "optimized defaults" for the el capitan upgrade while under f11. It disabled my dual monitor support (Apple TB display & Dell 27" connected to GTX 680). One or the other will work but not both together. That is before any kind of upgrade to El Capitan. I have no idea why this has happened as the machine was originally built with the f11 bios. Other than the iMessage issue the machine has been fairly stable. I am baffled and will start from scratch with a fresh install and stripped down machine after I complete a couple projects.

I upgraded the bios to f12 from f11 hoping that would somehow fix my dual monitor problem - it didn't. I discovered at that time that my Apple branded USB keyboard was not recognized by the machine.- I couldn't enter the password or change the boot order with the f12 key. I attach a PC USB keyboard and I can input fine (interestingly my other hack requires a PC keyboard too). I tried the Apple keyboard in the USB ports you mentioned and it didn't work under f12. Downgraded to f11 and it works in any USB port.

So I am back where I started minus a second monitor

Hey JoeBrod, I've been having loads of problems since the last couple security updates, and on the way to solving them, I found possible solutions for yours, since I have a very similar setup.

The problem of your keyboard not working could be due to your bios settings. After I upgraded to f12, I applied these settings as well as this:

My usb connected apple keyboard works fine.

Second, I found I created the problem of only one of my dual monitors working when I switched my system definition from Mac Pro 3,1 to iMac 12,2. Once I switched back to Mac Pro 3,1 my monitors both worked again. Hope that helps.

yes it does happen from time to time
I reboot and it will not again

is from 2 days I use my mac and I had no reboots ... fingers crossed !!!
Appstore works quietly and only added to this string config.plist
I took my serial number from information and inserted.

<key>RtVariables</key>
<dict>
<key>MLB</key>
<string>SERIAL NUMBER</string>
</dict>

Well as you maybe try and see if the system gets better!
first do yourself a backup of boot knows something goes wrong!

Hi Stork, i have nearly the same hardware as you, Up5 TH, 3770K and 760gtx. But i'm still on 10.8.5. Right now as el captain seems to be supported out of the box by unibeast and multibeast i want to upgrade to 10.11.4. What do you recommend to do it? Later on i plan to migrate the hardware to Ud5 TH Z170 and 6600K. What's the best way to go forward?

Best Regards

Samuel

Two approaches. First, you can install El Capitan on top of your Mt Lion build using tonymacx's Clover Basics and Switching Advice, and then update your applications.

Second approach would to be do a fresh installation on a new drive. Then using Migration Assistant to bring over your Account and apps. If you use this method, don't check the Move Other Files box.

Either way, backup before you begin.

Hmmm, I've got a very similar build, upgraded to 10.11.5. Most everything is working, I still need to test usb and a few peripherals.

Audio kext does not load at boot. I've put LoadHDA on my desktop, and audio works if I run that. Strange. I'm assuming this had to due to SIP? I've followed the instructions to put SIP into "SIP Partially Disabled (Loads unsigned kexts)," but it still fails to load automagically.
I'm still learning how to set custom things in Clover.config. I imagine there's something I can do there. I saw a "force kexts to load" area. I added "AppleHDA," but that did not change results.

Anyone have the same results and suggestions for me?
