Hey Everyone,

I've been having issues installing El Capitan on my Skylake system.

MOBO: Gigabyte GA Z170N Gaming 5 (F4 Bios Version)
GFX: EVGA Titan X
MEMORY: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB DDR4 2400
STORAGE: Samsung 950 Pro 512 GB M.2 NVMe SSD
WIRELESS: Broadcom BCM94352Z M.2 Wifi/BT

Basically, the very first time I installed everything using the generic installation guide (XHCI Handoff Enabled, memory set to Profile 1, VT-d disabled, added the NVMe kext to the "other" folder in the EFI, made sure UFEI was selected, Other OS), everything seemingly worked perfectly. Used a 64 GB USB stick which was connected to a USB 3.0 port. It booted up, made it through the installer, it recognized the NVMe SSD and I formatted it, and finished "Installing on Macintosh HD." It booted back up and then midway through the multibeast post-install, there was seemingly a kernal panic and it autorebooted but wasn't able to boot back into El Capitan again. So I spent the next few hours attempting to reinstall the OS assuming it would be as simple as the first time..

Unfortunately, the furthest I can make it now is to the Installing on "Macintosh HD" About 12 minutes remaining where everything freezes/hangs and I have to hard restart the system.

I have tried everything I could think of: Ammulders guide of GA H170N (pretty similar board), with nv_disable=1 (via Clover Configurator [CC]), with nv_disable=0 via CC, with a config.plist from @pentae (who has nearly the same build except his is working), connected a USB 2.0 header and installed using the USB 2.0 port, tried with the most recent RehabMan USBInjectALL kext (copied into 10.11 and 10.10 and even tried copying into the Other folder too), and I even took out my Titan X and tried all those with it out as well).

So I'm not quite sure what to do at this point.. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks a ton in advance!!!

Are you getting to Post installation at all? Don’t touch the nvidia drivers until Post installation - the GUI will flicker and be a bit weird but work well enough for you to install the nvidia web drivers.

Nope. I got to post-installation the very first time but then every time after I get stuck on the "Installing on Macintosh HD About 12 minutes remaining" screen. Sometimes, it gets stuck on the progress bars before the installation screen too.

Hey!

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I had a very difficult time reaching the installer with my build (H170N + i3 6100). I had to clear the CMOS using a jumper, once at the clover menu I hit the space bar and selected the bottom most option: "without caches & without Kexts". I don't know if it will help you but I was finally able to reach the installer last night.

I would also recommend that you try to install without the video card installed and with only 1 stick of ram. Not sure if it will make a difference but give it a shot.

Thank you for the advice monty007! These are good ideas, I'll give them all a shot tonight and report back. I've already tried it without the graphics card but not without the graphics card and only 1 stick of RAM so I'll try out all those combinations:)

So good news and bad news. Good news is that I got past the progress bars and was able to successfully install it and make it to multibeast post installation. I got to the post installation by following @monty007 's advice: clear CMOS, redid my BIOS settings, no NVIDIA card, and only 1 stick of RAM.
@pentae For the post installation, what did you install for your network drivers? Since our motherboard has the Killer E2201 and Multibeast only has the AtherosE2200 drivers. I'm guessing that's ok? Also which one did you install? The AtherosE2200Ethernet v2.0.1, the v2.1.0, or the v2.2.0d0? Also, did you select any other options for multibeast aside from UEFI Boot and ALC1150?

Bad news is after the multibeast post-installation and after installing the NVIDIA web drivers (so I could put my Titan X back in), when it booted up (without the unibeast usb), I got the "prohibited logo" in place of the "apple logo."

So tonight, I'm going to try a few different installations to try to further isolate the issues and figure out exactly what works.

My Ethernet only works with latest Atheros kext.

So do you mean the AtherosE2200Ethernet v2.2.0d0? Or is there a newer one?

Yes, the AtherosE2200Ethernet v2.2.0d0. This inside the latest multibeast.
