The PowerPC Hub's Power Mac G5 Hackintosh Build

I followed this video series last year as it unfolded (on both the main channel and the secondary channel). It was great fun to watch as I had just completed my own G5 Haswell build.

I love to see how others go about modding the G5 case, and these were great quality videos on the subject.

I just need to learn how to wire the ATX PSU to the original G5 power socket. Could you link me to a good resource explaining how to do this?
 
It is good to sea how much effort you put into everything. In your build, in the videos, very well done.

Thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately the PSU guide that I read up on before taking on the project is now missing its photos (damn you Photobucket!). But in reality it's a fairly simple process. Remove both PSUs from their casing, figure out a way to mount the new PSU securely (I used glue & cable ties), splice the original G5 power socket in to an old kettle lead, plug said kettle lead in to newly secured PSU, and Bob's your uncle!

Thanks. If all you need is the power button then you can directly solder the +/- wires on the back of the G5's button (bypassing the little I/O board). I can't remember off the top of my head but I believe you can wire up the power LED in this manner too.

neat build and you even maintain the look inside :D

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing my G5 was messy on the inside :p

Yes this is right. Just follow the wiring diagram and connect the + and - of both the LED and the power button to the right pins. I use this at my own build.

I guess my next project then is to bypass the logic board completely and look for the soldering areas.

LED would be nice too. That's all I need LED and power button but I am USELESS with wiring etc.

Can the LED be soldered somewhere other than the logic board?

Sorry, I do not completely understand what you mean. I used some wires and connectors of an old PC, and soldered them to the right wires of the original G5 connector. Then I could just connect them to my motherboard.

I understand now. Solder to the pins that stick out if the logic board to the wires?

So:
PWR+ to PWR +
FW GND to PWR-


LED+ to LED+
LED- to Au GND
