According to this old macrumors.com article, Apple creates shell companies to protect the possible future names.

That being the case, it claims that the major contenders would be :

Redwood, Mammoth, Big Sur, Pacific, Diablo, Miramar, Rincon, Redtail, Condor, Grizzly, Farallon, Tiburon, Monterey, Skyline, Shasta, and Sierra.

I think "Sierra" or "Redwood" sounds like something Apple would pick. Maybe even "Skyline", even though it would remind me of the japanese-made car ;)

I heard it might be called Fuji

Why OS X 10.12 ? Why not OS XI (Eleven) 11.0 ? We've had OS X (Ten) for over
15 years now. Why are we stuck on X for that long ? :problem:
The way I understand it is that only major/landmark upgrades/re-design would warrant that move (to 11.0x) You have to admit that 10.00 can still be seen in 10.11 (basic design/aesthetics).

El Capitan Spock :)

Good One  A completely logical choice.

First El Capitan Kirk, then Senor Spock, Comandante.

Mountain ranges are out. Forests are in! Think it will be Muir Woods or Redwood.
10.13 will never exist because of the "13" in the name.
Apple will change the naming scheme to something different and not OS 11.
Probably just MacOS 1.0

I think "Riddick" would be a good name for a MAC OS. :)
