OSX - Yosemite - App Store

Comments

Background
I'm building this computer for a friend. His purpose for the build is audio production and 3D animation work. I haven't built a Hackintosh in about 5 years so I'm nervous and excited for the challenge.
I'll be referring to several successful X99 build guides as well as this video:

I'll be updating this guide as I go, I'm creating my Unibeast USB stick as I type. Feel free to ask any questions or offer any tips.

What is working so far (after following the steps in that video):

- Audio
- Wifi
- Firewire
- iMessage

Not working:

- USB 3.0!!!

Everything was going smoothly until I got to the Nvidia Web Drivers...
I'm seeing a stop sign (circle with line through the middle) right after the Apple logo on startup.

I have a feeling it's a boot flag issue.

While installing Yosemite these were my bootflags:

npci=0x3000
nv_disable=1
debug=0x14e
kext-dev-mode=1

And after installing Yosemite I've been attempting to use these flags:

npci=0x3000
nvda_drv=1
debug=0x14e
kext-dev-mode=1

I seem to only be able to boot into Yosemite (on my main OS drive) if I use nv_disable=1, but then of course the GPU drivers are disabled.

I AM able to boot into Yosemite through my Unibeast USB stick WITH nvda_drv=1.

Any tips? I feel like I'm missing something simple.

Edit: BTW I'll update this guide properly once I get farther along.

I can't seem to solve this issue..
The computer boots into Yosemite like 1 every 4 tries.
The other times this pops up after the Apple logo..

Someone please help me. :banghead:

I was able to get things working with half of the effort you put in.

My specs are as follows.

X99-a

5930K

GTX 970

Samsung 840 evo

All I had to do was use npci=0x2000 and -x. Then I installed the OS. Rebooted with the same flags, and then went and deleted all the kexts that did not matter for my build, and then downloaded and installed the nvidia web drivers for the 970.

A friend of mine has the exact same build, and his machine has been running like clock work.

The only issue I have run into with this build is that I can not get el capitan to work.

Thanks very much for your reply.

I haven't been able to work on the computer in a few days cause I was moving.

Did you change ANYTHING in Bios? Which Bios version?
Also, are you using Clover?
And which mac profile?

If so, could you screen cap the different pages in Clover Configurator?

Thanks again.. Really appreciate it.

Hi there,

I have the same setup:

Asus X99-a USB 3.1
I7 5930K
Samsung 840 EVO (optional: Intel SSD DC P3500 Series 400gb, SATA Express)
32 GB Vengeance Corsair RAM DDR 4
Asus GTX 970 Strix
Enermax Fanless PSU

I'm a newbie in hackintosh things, so i don't understand really how i must hookup these things (kext installing, terminal commands and so on);)..... What i have do several times is briefly read the UniBeast manual and i do exactly as they wrote. But after 10 Takes i am frustrating...... My Plan is to go with El Capitan.

I made the BIOS Setting as exactly describe. When i now boot over the USB UniBeast stick, there comes also the error icon. But when i type in the clover boot options menu 'add clover boot options for all entries', the Apple logo Starts with the progression bar, but after 10seconds it interrupts and the bios appears.....:cry:...... What is wrong?

How can i add 'Voodoo TSCSync.kext' on the USB stick? And is this necessary?

Which additional BIOS Settings needs the x99-a usb 3.1? Please help.....

cheers and much thanks to all!

I know, very beginner question, pleace be patient.....: use npci=0x2000 and -x. Then I installed the OS. Rebooted with the same flags ...... where must i enter these things? Sorry for my unknowing!

Would Mavericks work on this setup?

Hi Bill, Im trying to install Sierra on my machine which is a lot like yours and I have a EVGA 740 1 GB video card. Is there anyway to get a detailed installation instructions or a video? Im not super tech savvy and I get a little lost when it comes to kernel patches and stuff you need to type in like boot flags.
I find a lot of the people in the videos don,t explain this process so a normal person can understand. lol
Any help would be appreciated.
