Setup Guide for Gigabyte BRIX and BRIX Pro using Clover

Hi all, I am wondering if you can assist me a little further than these wonderful guides.

I bought a gigabyte BXi3H-5010 recently to install yosemite on, but despite running through the setup twice, I get the "no entry" sign on install, with a "Waiting for root device" message (in verbose mode).

Has anyone had any success with this model of Brix? I'm worried that it won't work because it's Broadwell (I thought I was buying the 4010U version of the processor but I must have had a blind moment )

Any thoughts or next steps? Happy to post whatever further details anyone needs if they can assist me/provide their experience...

Many thanks in advance to any kind help from anyone...

I have not got direct experience with the Broadwell 5010u version, but I am currently trying to refine my installation on the i3 4010U version [actually the one with the built in projector] and am stuck on getting any accelerated graphics to actually work. The rest is coming along okay but I'd be interested to hear if anyone ever got a fully successful install on the 4010u model (with or without projector) as nowhere in this thread or elsewhere have I actually heard of success with it.

Things you might try with yours is to disable graphics injection - i.e. do not use 'inject intel' - to see if it will install. You might also try with -x (safe mode) as a boot flag and also make sure you are using the latest version of Clover. Use a Broadwell Mac SMBIOS too.

Good luck and report back!

Hi,

I have brix pro and did fresh install to el capitan with clover.
the onboard audio working after install alc 269 and hd 4600 drivers from multibeast 8, but the hdmi audio is not working.
what i need to do in order to fix it ?

thank you:)

Any guide should include EXACT model used, as there are many that are named the same Brix/Brix Pro.
Model looks like - ie. GB-BXi7-4770R

Otherwise it makes it all confusing

If someone does successfully apply and flash the 64 MB modification to HM87P.F6 please post the binary here.

If I save the Gigabyte GB-BXi5-4570R BIOS (HM85P.F6) using AMIBCP.exe and compare the original using WinDiff there are very few changes. Whereas if I save the Gigabyte GB-BXi7-4770R BIOS (HM87P.F6) using AMIBCP.exe and compare the original using WinDiff there are many more changes to the binary. I'm not sure why but it appears that AMIBCP.exe destroys the HM87P.F6 BIOS when you save.

I successfully flashed my GB-BXi7-4770R with a modified bios today. Luckily, everything went well.
I adjusted the
DVMT Pre-Allocated Ram from 32 to 64 as described by akitoh. I verified the different bioses with Windiff and also found that the bios tool does many changes.

I attached the bios version I modified and flashed with success. I will not take any responsibility for bricked Brixes.
To verify the checksum, in terminal, type
Code:
md5 HM87P.F6
My checksum is:
e00900be51c776ae25111c40af6dfd92

After restart, my Brix immediately showed a resolution of 3840x2160 at 60hz using the Mini Displayport and a Philips
PHL BDM4065. Works just like in Windows, very sharp and good performance.

My Brix is now running very well. I have 16gb of ram and a 960gb Sandisk SSD. I am amazed by what this little machine can do.

To keep temps and the fan noise down, I disabled Turbo mode in the Bios.

Thanks for sharing!

I don't have a 4k screen yet so I'm holding off on this, but want to eventually get 4k on this thing. You're absolutely right. It's a wonderful little computer with quite a bit of power under the hood. Been a godsend for my image processing.

Anyone done the update to 10.11.2 yet? I read about some issues people were having in the main thread and held off.

As you can see from my screenshot, I have 10.11.2 installed.

Today, I made the El Capitan Recovery Update 1.0 without an issue. My system is now up to date and works.

Indeed you did. My bad. :silent:

Hi,

Firstly I'd like to say thank you to everyone on these forums, as your various guides and dev work have helped me build a functioning hackintosh, which is great!!! (Particular props go out to Toleda and Rehabman !) however I have a few little remaining niggles that I'm hoping you kind people can assist me with. Subsequent to my first post here I've been beavering away and managed to get a (mostly) working Mackintosh (hurrah!)

Machine build

Brix s bxi3h-5010 (broad well machine) with 16gb ram (Intel HD 5500 graphics and alc283 sound)
256gb SSD El Capitan and clover installed here)
1TB internal hard disk (for music library)
Dell Dw1560 ngff card installed (for wifi and bt)
Apple wireless keyboard and mouse
Cheapo sub keyboard and mouse

(Add which installation guides you have followed, out may ask - well the one on this thread of course mainly! Plus using Multicast to get my sound working! )

Overall all works well other than the following issues:
- the sound from the headphone jack is very crackly/hissy (i.e. you can hear mouse movements and screen scrolling through it) and occasionally just dies completely (nothing to do with waking sleeping), pending a reboot to resolve (or multiple attempts at another sounds playing app eg YouTube)

- when the sound drops, I get this error in the /var/log/system.log :
Code:
[COLOR=#222222][FONT=Menlo]Jan 11 12:18:09 The-McNeils-Mac-Mini kernel[0]: Sound [/FONT][/COLOR][COLOR=#FFFFFF][FONT=Menlo]asser[/FONT][/COLOR][COLOR=#222222][FONT=Menlo]tion in AppleHDAFunctionGroup at line 1058[/FONT][/COLOR]
- I have 2 instances of this machine and they both exhibit the same issues

- However, I'd rather run sound through a usb dac that I have (a schiit modi) but whenever I plug it in I get this error repeatedly in the system log:
Code:
[COLOR=#222222][FONT=Menlo]HS03@14300000: AppleUSB20XHCIPort::resetAndCreateDevice: failed to create device, [/FONT][/COLOR][COLOR=#FFFFFF][FONT=Menlo]disabl[/FONT][/COLOR][COLOR=#222222][FONT=Menlo]ing port[/FONT][/COLOR]
- this dac works fine after 20 seconds or so on my MacBook Air (also El Capitan) and *may* have worked on my brix s when I initially installed Yosemite
- other usb devices (keyboard, mice, iPhone via lightning connector) work fine on usb

- I can't get apple wireless keyboard and mouse to work in clover startup screen (I'd like to dual boot these machines to Windows)

Any thoughts on the 3 problems? I'm not asking for complete answers (although that would be nice :D) but any good hints at what to start trying would be helpful also!

Many thanks and Happy New Year!

Matt
