Was finally able to purchase a graphics card. I have the Nvidia branded Geforce GTX 980. I've installed the drivers but I FCP X keeps shutting down while editing. Is this something to do with the card or the drivers not being installed correctly. From what I've read online the card isnt supported natively. Should I opt to buy a recommended card from the list on this site? I purchased this card because of my employee discount through work. Or is this an issue only in FCP X? Does it happen in Adobe Premiere Pro? Thanks for the help.

This is the card if that helps.

Hey there, I have a question regarding the web driver (Mid 2010 MBP user here with nVidia 330M). Previously I had issues with the normal drivers that came with the OS, I noticed that a lot of apps were using the nVidia GPU instead of the Intel one and when I would quit an app the mouse cursor would disappear for several seconds. I found that really annoying and decided to switch to the nVidia Web Driver.

But, ever since, I noticed that only 1 GPU can be active once the computer is booted. As in, I am using the Intel graphics and if I turn on a certain app that should use the nVidia one (Hearthstone for example) the Mac keeps using the Intel card. If I try to switch to the nVidia GPU I would be asked for a computer restart in order for the switch to take place. So, is this expected behavior with these drivers, or is there a setting I should toggle somewhere?

Thanks in advance

I also get crashed of CVDisplayLink with 346.03.04f02

That FCPX crashing problem is affecting almost every Nvidia Maxwell card. So far there's no way around it. If I were you I would use Adobe Premiere, at least until this issue is fixed (make sure you have CUDA drivers installed if you want maximum speed in Premiere)
And no, you don't have to buy a new card. The 980 should work perfectly for everything besides Final Cut.

Hi all,

So i have a bit of an issue, i bought a new graphics card (gtx970) and i cant seem to get the drivers working properly, they do display at the proper res and do the full 60hz but theres a secondary vga display that keeps showing up that doesnt exist. There isnt even a vga connection on this card. It seems it is refered to as a "Ghost display". Everything else works on el capitan, but this display is always selected as the primary on boot until i change it which makes logging in a bit tricky. I had issues before and did a clean install so I dont believe that doing so again will help. My monitor is a Dell U3415W. I was going to start a new thread but i believe the issue is tied to this driver, I did not have it working on 10.11.1 either, i just never got around to figuring it out.

From what ive found it may also be related to the frame buffer which i have not tampered with yet as im not too confident in how to go about doing that.

Hope someone can help!

Thanks!

EDIT: I am definitely using the new drivers (346.03.04f02) and I am using the imac 14,2 profile but have tried 3,1 and a few others as well.

Try deleting the display preference file. And then setup your display settings and reboot. I have had a similar problem in the past with audio where it was defaulting to my DisplayPort for audio but it is connected to a monitor without speakers. Deleting the audio preferences file solved it.

Hi Community

I tried on many occasions to use my video card (Geforce GT 610 2GB DDR3) but it has not been possible to enable it, I've tried all indications of these handbooks, but not that I failed.

I thank the person who can help me install the video card.

NOTE: I am installing OSX on a El Capitan MoBo Gigabyte Dual BIOS / UEFI using Legacy, and connecting the VGA screen.

Excuse my bad English, because my native language is Spanish.

Thank you so much

There is no support for VGA in OS X.

What do you mean by this exactly? I removed the Displays.prefPane file and all that happened after a reboot was I had no preference pane for displays lol.
