OS X 10.11.2 Update

Not open for further replies.
Thanks to all for your efforts in coaching new guys like myself  After studying for quite some time to configure my hardware I started two weeks ago from 10.6.3 via 10.6.8 to 10.11.1 last week. Just used the recent AppStore download and executed the upgrade and am running 10.11.2 now. Only needed to 'restore' the audio again. First steps were quite difficult, mostly caused by the volume of information that needed to be read and a bad USB stick. After being a real one all went fine. From my perspective I don't notice anything different between 10.11.2 and the previous version.

System runs fine for what I intend to do with the 'iMac' (some heavy duty number crunching). Only problem that still remain are:

1. Display is 'flickering' on startup and in some of the more 'dynamic' configurations. Also Safari has some screen refresh problems when moving the mouse arrow over the the area that displays the name/title of the tab.

2. I couldn't find a fix for yet is that Maps does not display any maps, but otherwise functions normally. Can't find anything amiss that could explain this behaviour.

But then these are more cosmetic...

After some more reading I decided to extend my system with a EVGA Geforce GTX 750 SC. I first installed the recommended driver for 10.11.2 (15C50) 346.03.04f01 (see the thread "Solving NVIDIA Driver Install & Loading Problems") followed by installing the Graphics card and switching the HDMI cable to the new card. Making no other changes the system booted as before, yet now showing off the graphics capabilities. All the remaining small problems noted earlier were gone and everything worked like a charm. Maps worked as it should. Also the DVD player didn't complain anymore about not finding a suitable device (-70017) and the webcam was also properly recognised as a camera in Photo Booth.
As far as I can tell, the system behaves 100% like an iMac. Next on my wish list is a UHD monitor... mostly for having more desk space without using a second monitor.

Thanks again for all your great work:clap:
Peter

Installation went without a hitch, however I am not impressed by the new AMD drivers.

Cinebench scores went WAY down.
10.9.x- 99fps
10.10.x- 81fps
10.11.2- 71fps

I also get sever lag/choppiness when moving a finder window or in games. It seems every 500 frames it hiccups about 60 frames and goes smooth for another 500.

As well, YouTube videos in Safari will freeze after a few seconds and I have to click to Finder and back to get it moving again.

Also, when I wake from sleep after about 3 minutes OS X restarts unannounced.

Not cool Apple!

:banghead:

Anyone else having wifi disconnection issues with .2?

(using a real Airport card (broadcom mini pci adapter) so it has always 'just worked'. Now with .2, wifi traffic continuously stalls. No disconnects from airport menu and no warnings in dmesg. I've tried multiple APs, no difference.)

Does anyone have an X99 10.11.2 working with nVidia web drivers? I cannot get those to load and tried using the nvidia utility and also adding nvda_drv=1 and always defaults to no acceleration.

Updated from through the App Store, rebooted with nv_disable=1, updated NVidia drivers, rebooted, all fine. Sound works, no issues detected after the update. Now to wait an hour to see if Apple fixed the bug that prevented scheduled backups from occurring if you have a UPS connected via USB. Time machine apparently incorrectly identified the machine as running on battery if a UPS was connected, and refused to run the scheduled backup.

Really have to love how much simpler updating is under Clover :)

Hi,

You may want to look at the thread #118.

I experience thesame issue.

Not sure if you have Clover boot loader. Delete all additional kext's except FakeSMC.

That allowed me to go past the 60-70% progress and finalise the update / installation process.

Afterwards you can put the kext's that you delete back. Reboot and all should be fine.

Regards
Mike

One thing to point out, and I noticed this on my "real" macbook pro, the update takes awhile and reboots twice. Had no problems on my HaCk system directly updating from app store other that worried about a black screen at first. On the macbook pro, it shows an apple logo and update bar in what looks like VGA resolution. On the hack, just black screen. I had disk activity light going on and off. after about 12 min, it rebooted. You log in and it instantly reboots again and completes update. This was the same on both machines.

Jules

Update was pretty much painless here. Audio, trim, and usb 2 & 3 all working. Messages and FaceTime still working. Only hiccup i had was having to re-apply fix #4 from alternate nvidia card fixes on GTX 960 to solve black screen after boot or sleep. Other than that all good here!!!!
