NVIDIA has released alternate graphics drivers for OS X El Capitan 10.11.2. These are separate from the drivers Apple ships as standard, and should be considered experimental. These drivers have been known to solve OpenCL issues with certain applications, as well as providing better native GPU power management for certain devices.

NOTE: These drivers are currently the only method to get full acceleration for NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750, 750 Ti, 950, 960, 970, 980, 980 Ti, and TITAN X 'Maxwell' graphics cards. There are no current Macs with these cards, so support is absent natively in OS X.

In order to use the alternate drivers on a CustoMac, you must first install the driver package. Also make sure to choose NVIDIA Web Driver using the standard menubar or system preference pane then reboot.

Updated without problems. Green light from me.

Be advised that these drivers, like 346.03.03f02 before them, result in always reproducible (and quite frequent) FCPX 10.2.2 crashes on the CVDisplayLink thread (CoreImage/CoreVideo) in some configurations with Maxwell cards (there are reports for 780 and 980Ti, but more may suffer from this) rendering it unusable. The most recent version of the drivers that worked with FCPX on ElCapitan were 346.03.03f1.

I have a 2008 Mac Pro with a GTX 960 installed. I have to swap in an officially supported graphics card each time I update the OS and nvidia drivers. Is it possible to issue an nv_disable=1 boot argument (or something comparable) for an actual Mac?

The answer is YES! Below is the command that I will enter tonight from the terminal:
Code:
sudo nvram boot-args="nv_disable=1"

I may have to re-enable the nvidia driver using boot arguments as well...
Code:
sudo nvram boot-args="nvda_drv=1"

Should we stay with the old drivers or it is stable now?

This refuses to load for my X99 system. Works fine in 10.11.1, but it will not load web drivers and I've tried both Mac Pro 6,1 and 5,1 definition.

Update - reinstalled everything and now working.

Works fine with my MSI GTX780 Ti under 10.11.2

Can we safely go back to 346.03.03f1?

anyone got 346.03.03f1 modded for 10.11.2 ?

edit: ive modded them, keeps reseting (start only with nv_disable=1)
