I have managed to successfully install El Capitan on my Hackintosh. I am trying to install Windows 10 UEFI on a separate HDD but it has been unsuccessful.

I created a bootable Windows on USB using Rufus.
The partition scheme and target system type is set as GPT partition scheme for UEFI
File System as FAT32.

I have changed the following settings in my bios, am using a Gigabyte Z77-HD3 board.
1. Boot Mode Selection: UEFI Only
2. Storage Boot Option Control: UEFI Only
3. Display Boot Option Control: UEFI Only
4. Other PCI Device ROM Priority: UEI OpROM

Other things I have tried.
1. Reformatting the disk to NTFS/GUID/Etc prior to installing.
2. Disconnecting all other drives.
3. Clearing all paritions on the drive, becoming Unallocated Space, and letting Windows Setup setup the disk.

In the Windows Setup, upon booting, after selecting the disk, I am getting a generic error.

"We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files"

Your help is much appreciated.

Easiest way to set up a Win10 UEFI drive from OS X:
In disk utility, select the Win10 drive, click partition, click current, select number of partitions you want to create - the first one has to be at least 50GB. name the partition if you want, select partition type as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

At the Win10 installation screen, select this partition you created, click advanced, click format, then continue Win10 installation.

Hi.

I don't quite understand on the part clicking 'Current', I don't see such options on Disk Utility of El Capitan. I don't understand on the reasons for creating a partition too.

Thanks.

In order to install Win10 on a UEFI mainboard so that Clover UEFI can boot it, you have to install Win10 in UEFI mode, which means the drive has to be formatted GUID partition tables - not MBR (Master Boot Record) required by the old BIOS.

You can do it in OS X disk utility or you can wait until you boot the Windows installer and do it in command line by typing shift+F10 to open the command terminal, then type:
(hit enter after each line)

diskpart
list disk

(determine which disk you want to format - best if there is only one drive connected, say disk0)

select disk 0
clean
convert gpt
exit
exit

(close the command window and continue the Win10 install - Win10 installer will create its own partitions and format the drive NTFS)

Hi,

I have done the abovementioned steps, and in the Selecting the Disk part of Windows Setup, the drive is then showed as unallocated. Upon clicking the drive and "Next", I am presented with an error, "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of Installation. To Install Windows, restart the installation."

However, the disk is then partitioned into 4 parts, Recovery, System, MSR (Reserved) and Primary. Selecting on Primary and clicking "Next" again yields the same error.

Edit:

I'm not exactly sure what happened. But I decided to unplug all the other HDDs again, plug in the Bootable Windows onto another USB port. It seems to work fine, and install Windows 10 perfectly, checked with System Information, "BIOS Mode: UEFI".

Still very clueless on what happened.

Windows installer is very stupid and wants to install on first drive the PCH sees on boot up always.
That is why I said to disconnect all other drives - there was a drive "ahead" of the Win10 drive in the SATA port order the PCH recognizes the ports and Win10 installer, wanting to install files on the first drive it sees, tried to install them there and could not do it, so it comes back with error message about unable to install.

Hi there,
You couldn't install windows 10 on your computer.
Your best solution is contract with Microsoft.
Tell them about your problem.
I thinks they can help you.
