Hi there,

does anyone know if i can use 950 Pro SSD With NVMe on Z170 mainboard with El Capitan and boot normaly. I have searched on diferent forums and didn't get any answer.

Harware: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-950-pro-ssd-nvme-3d-vnand,30135.html

Buy one and lets find out.... Just kidding, I've got a Samsung SM951 NVMe M.2 drive and its not being seen by OS X using the dedicated M.2 Slot. I'd like to know if the 950 Pro is compatible too as I've Windblows on my NVMe drive and would be willing to replace it.

From what I have heard those drives are not even bootable to start with, as Samsung sells them to OEMs and they make them bootable. This means gentlemen that you have work to do, dig articles on the net and share the homework. The test done on those drives are done testing the drive as an additional drive, not as a booting drive!

I just received my 950 Pro today and tried installing El Cap on my Gigabyte Z97x-ud7-th bios F6. No luck yet. The motherboard sees the 950, and it is a boot option for the motherboard, but El Cap installer doesn't see it.

I've only had about 2 hours with it so far, and will be trying to get it working over the next few days.

I have the samsung 950 nvme too. I can't even boot on my normal ssd drive if it's plugged.
I'm ready to make any test you guys think of :))

should I do something with this kext? https://pikeralpha.wordpress.com/2015/03/13/new-ionvmefamily-kext/

Well this looks more like that according to pike you have to select one of the given models:
Mac-9F18E312C5C2BF0B.plist / MacBookAir7,1 (Early 2015)
Mac-937CB26E2E02BB01.plist / MacBookAir7,2 (Early 2015)
Mac-BE0E8AC46FE800CC.plist / MacBook8,n (Early 2015)
Mac-E43C1C25D4880AD6.plist / MacBookPro12,1 (Early 2015)
Mac-F305150B0C7DEEEF.plist / MacBook8,n (Early 2015)

To support your NVME drive. im getting my samsung 950 in the next 1-2 days, i think maybe for installers sake you have to either select an SMBios stated above or you have to patch this kext to support the SMBios you selected.

I'll confirm as soon as i get my hands on the 950 pro.
