i am using 10.11 on a mac pro 2014 using a Nvidia K5000 mac ... and i am having serious issues with the system not recognising the nvidia web drive .... the issue became worst once i update the Wacom software

just for you guys to know in case are having similar problems

one solution that i found was to go through
mac ox
library
preferencepanes

and launch

NVIDIA Driver Manager.prefPane

that seems to bring the web drive back to life

Hey all,

I downloaded the latest drivers and the NVIDIA software (I have an NVIDIA GTX 850) and I see the configuration menu and it lets me change it to the 'NVIDIA Web Driver' as opposed to the 'OS X Default Graphics Driver'. At this point it prompts me to restart. I do. However, it seems to default back to the OS X defaults.

I tried the boot flag 'nvda_drv=1' to no avail.

Any other suggestions?

Just updated to 10.11.1 and now these drivers say not compatible. Anyone know of a work around or do I just need to wait for an update. Anyway to roll back to 10.11.0?

no.

the #1 reason why one should never os x updates right away. put up with it via nv_disable=1 for a day or 2.

Thanks, I have nv_disable=1 set and up and running. This is just machine to mess around with so no biggie that its down. I just set it up today :) Thanks for the quick reply

Whenever you use the nVidia driver package, you should always wait before updating OSX, until such time as the nVidia driver package is updated too.

This is particularly important if your graphics only work properly with the driver package.

nVidia are usually quite good with their releases and typically update within a couple of days of an updated OSX version.

Yosemite users should also be careful as their variant, update "Security Update 2015-004 1.0", will cause similar issues.

Question though; does Nvidia release specific updated drivers for non-current systems (Yosemite in this case), or are they perhaps backwards compatible?

Don't expect many to be backward compatible since they do at least one release for pretty much every OSX version. When you look at it that way, they don't really need to make them backward compatible that much at all. Every previous version of OSX has a working driver already available in that respect.
