Big List of Solutions for El Capitan Install Problems

I had installed system to ssd, and sometimes it is booting fine - but other times I get prohibitory sign right after I choose boot from ssd option. And whether I get this sign or not seems to be completely random...
So my "workaround" is this: whenever the sign is showed, just hard-reset the computer (cause keyboard is not responsive at this moment), cross you fingers and hope that next time it will load fine. In 40% of the cases it does, though. Not sure how to troubleshoot this.

What do you have in EFI/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI/ ?

I'm getting this, but on my SSD; the USB worked fine. It's a legacy motherboard.

In another thread you said this problem was solved. How did you do it? I have this problem too. USB installer boots fine with GPT. Install went fine too. After setting up system according to the guide I try to reboot into the ssd install. Then the boot0af error occurs.

Hazelfoot:

I have the same mobo and CPU. Followed the guide exactly and had no trouble before I tried to install or uininstall some kexts and customize the SMBIOS. My advice would be to not do this. :D Is your mobo's BIOS/UEFI updated?

Reinstalled everything and now everything works quite fine. Audio still gives me static unless I run the Voodoo HDA app at login. The microphone still captures mostly static.

I believe my mobos firmware is from 2012, version 1208 (too scared to reboot to check right now.) After some Googling I discovered somebody else resolved this issue by disabling "secure boot." However, my version does not have this option.

Maybe I should update it?

Thanks Toleda. El Capitan installed on my system without problems:

Video: OK
Lan: OK
Audio: OK

Got some more for the Boot Maintenance Manager bit-

Using USB 3.0 Ports - Boot Maintenance Manager
For best results use a USB 2.0 port. If your computer doesn’t have any USB 2.0 ports, you might enter Boot Maintenance Manager. These steps will scan the USB using File Explorer and allow you to boot Clover from file.

Note: For Clover Legacy Boot Mode only.

1. Choose Boot Maintenance Manager and hit Enter
2. Choose Boot From File and hit Enter
3. Choose USB and hit Enter
4. Choose EFI and hit Enter
5. Choose BOOT and hit Enter
6. Choose BOOTX64.efi and hit Enter

"Boot fails with Error allocating 0x18710 pages at ... alloc type 2 / Couldn't allocate runtime area"

I ran into this problem again while attempting another clean install. Turns out the real solution is to simply use a different USB port; it is not related to config.plist.

Asus P8Z77-V lx not loading clover was resolved by updating my BIOS to version 2501 and disabling secure boot. Secure boot is not an option on earlier versions.

My problem: "Install reboots or completes but El Capitan drive does not appear as a boot option in the Clover menu".

I've carried out the initial installation repeatedly, tried fixing BIOS settings, and still cannot come up with the El Capitan boot option after the install; when I choose "USB", of course I just go back to a repeat of the initial install. (Not a Legany install: I've used UEFI, given my MB.)

I also put together a bootable external drive with 10.10, using my MacPro laptop, firewired it to my desktop, then tried Unibeast to install 10.11 on the external drive. Same problem: could complete initial install but no option to reboot with El Capitan. In setting up this drive, I installed the Clover v2 recommended package.

After my first failure, I've used my laptop to build the Unibeast boot USBs, which has worked fine in getting me into the initial OS install.

I have no access to my internal system drive. In my rush I didn't backup, as I should have.

After many hours, I cannot think of what else I might do. Replace my system internal HD and start over? My knowledge of all this is modest., so if you have suggestions, please spell them out.

Help needed and greatly appreciated!!

Update: 10-07-15 -- After too many hours, I succeeded in reverting to Yosemite. I had to reformat the system drive but had a Time Machine backup so came out ok. At this point, I'm reluctant to try installing El Cap, at least until I have time to learn more and the new Multibeast is available. Clover has proved to be a challenge, so I'm working on that.

"Prohibited" or "Stop" sign when booting Clover/El Capitan Installer

I'm receiving the "Prohibited" sign when attempting to boot into the El Capitan installer. It doesn't seem like the cause of my issue is the same as what is listed.

I'm running the following successfully in 10.9 using Chimera:
i7-4770k
Gigabyte z87x-ud3h
NVidia GTX 650TI BOOST
16GB RAM (2x8GB)
Seiki 39" 4k TV (used as a monitor, but only has HDMI inputs)

I've tried multiple combinations of the following boot flags:
safe mode
npci=0x2000
rootless=0
cpus=1
nv_disable=1
disabled or enabled the intel gfx injector (with IGFX enabled or disabled in BIOS)
disabled or enabled the nvidia injector
etc

I've tried installing and customizing the Clover EFI partition on the USB stick (changes to config.plist, kexts, etc), but no luck (I've since wiped the USB and started over with a clean version of the Unibeast 6 install).

I've tried booting with everything unplugged except: keyboard, USB thumbdrive (with the Unibeast installer/clover on it), ethernet, and monitor. I've tried booting with all of my peripherals connected. No change.

When booting normally, the boot eventually stops at the prohibited sign. When booting verbose, the prohibited sign appears and most of the text on the screen becomes garbled. At this point, I suspect there's a graphics card incompatibility. Does anyone have a working El Capitan system with a 650TI BOOST? or any nvidia card with a Kepler chip? If so, how were you able to get the system to fully boot?

Appreciate any help. Already have spent days trying to figure this out. I hope I won't need to buy another video card..
