I've been running 10.10.4 on my desktop for a while now, and I want to start using my Apple Magic Mouse with it. The only problem is, my Insignia USB Bluetooth adapter doesn't want to work with OS X. When I open up System Information, is shows up under the USB Device Tree as BCM20702A0 with the following information:

Product ID: 0x0239
Vendor ID: 0x19ff
Version: 1.12
Serial Number: 98588A055ED3
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Broadcom Corp
Location ID: 0x14400000 / 3
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): Unknown (Device has not been configured)

I've tried using the kexts from this post about installing Yosemite on the Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 which uses the same Bluetooth device, but it didn't work.

Use BrcmPatchRAM.kext: https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-BrcmPatchRAM

So beings that I'm still pretty new to the Hackintosh scene, here's what I did.

I download the files from here, where the document linked the download, grabbing the release from July 31st, yesterday. I extracted the files out of the ZIP archive and moved the BrcmBluetoothInjector.kext file onto my desktop, as the readme said that file was for "Yosemite and newer". I used KextBeast to install the file to my drive and used Disk Utility to repair permissions on my OS X drive.

As far as I know, this is the method to install kexts to the system. I'll report back shortly if it worked.

The injector kext is only for 10.11.

You should read the README carefully.

I see. I totally misinterpreted that.

I opened Finder to /S/L/E and moved the previous kext to the trash, moved the BrcmPatchRAM.kext file to the desktop and performed the same steps as previously. Let's see if I can't mess it up again.

Alright, here's where I am now.

  1. BrcmPatchRAM.kext is installed and working. System Information reports that the Insignia NS-PCY5BMA Bluetooth Dongle is installed into a USB Hi-Speed Bus
  2. The Current Required (mA) is set to 0
  3. The Bluetooth tab is reporting No Information Found.
  4. There are no Bluetooth settings in the System Preferences window.

Do I need to reinstall the original IOBluetoothFamily kext? If so, where can I find it? And if now, how should I proceed from here?

No need to patch native bt kexts. Restore to vanilla.

Can I download the native kext from somewhere or do I need to reinstall Mac?

Run the OS X installer.
