Hi all,

Is anyone else getting stuck at a gray screen with a spinning beach ball cursor during clover boot?

I've been running a very stable Yosemite installation with Clover for the last few months. No issues. I decided to do a clean install for El Cap and I cannot seem to get to the installation screen. I've tried every combination of options I can think of. Clover drivers, boot args, etc. Just wondering if anyone else has run into the same issue.

My build:
GA-Z97X-UD5H
Core i5-4690K
EVGA GeForce GTX 770

Having exactly the same problem, I seem to alternate between gray screen with beachball and no-entry sign. Never been beaten before but this one has got me.

do you have inject nvidia ticked in your comfig.plist?

The Clover-based method (for El Capitan Public Beta) is not universal. I created USB stick following the guide for El Capitan Public Beta but in reality the USB stick was not bootable. I installed El Capitan by directly upgrading.

Same problem here, after booting from USB it takes a little while and verbose boot seems to come back with a few pauses but then finally boots but just a spinning wheel. I've tried a few combinations which have returned a few different things, some just white screen others with the spinning beach ball...

Thanks all. I finally got it to boot by copying my Clover config from my working Yosemite installation and removing the boot args (kext-dev-mode=1 and GraphicsEnabler=Yes). I think GraphicsEnabler was the issue.

I tried this but did not work for me. I am using an AMD HD7xxx card and all works fine under Yosemite but when I try to install El Capitan I get the same spinner but I also see, using -v, that the system is telling me my Bluetooth adapter needs updated firmware. I am using an adapter from osxwifi, original Apple Broadcom BCM94360CD and getting Bluetooth transport.

Any suggestions would be grateful!!

I installed with my GT640 and HD4600 connected, I have the same model wifi card as you in my Z87X-OC. The message about firmware and Bluetooth transport appeared in the verbose text whilst installing, I just waited and it eventually reaches the installer, just takes some time (3 slight hangs). Don't be afraid to leave it for a while.

The Wifi and Bluetooth card works in El Capitan without issues.

@wildwillow

Thanks for letting me know this. I took your advice and let my pc sit for quite a while. About an hour to be exact. I can only seem to get to a grey screen with the spinning wheel. Funny how Yosemite runs on my machine without any issues. I know, it is a beta. I have tried with rootless=0, removing rootless, removing everything and just -v, etc. nothing I do seems to get me beyond the grey with spinner.

The boot flags I used were rootless=0 and -v. And i'm not sure if its compulsory or not but where it says OS X version. I changed 10.10.10 to 10.11
Do you have Clover installed with Yosemite working on your hardware? If so use the config.plist. Firstly open it up with Clover configurator and set the boot flags and remove (if any) audio patches in KextsToPatch. You can add the latest patches once you get it installed.
