So I installed Yosemite a few weeks ago and it's working almost perfectly- the main issue is that most of the time, when i start up the computer, after the Gigabyte splash screen and the chimera bootloader screen come up, it ends up booting to a black screen. I'm always in verbose mode, and i've never noticed any errors or anything- it seems like it boots into OS X just fine, just with no output signal. But the weirdest part is that it doesn't always happen, so basically whenever i turn on the computer i have to restart it several times before i get a signal and i can finally get to the login screen. This is an OS X only issue- Windows boots perfectly every time. This is more of an annoyance than a huge problem (since i can still boot up, it just takes several tries) but i would definitely like it fixed. Thanks for any help.

I've only seen this problem when using a 4K monitor; I almost always have to turn the monitor off, then on again, after booting.

Selecting DisplayPort 1.1 cures it, but ick...DisplayPort 1.1 is limited to 30fps.

If you're not using a 4K monitor, I suspect the NVIDIA web drivers. Heck, I downloaded a new one just today (5/12) that caused my system to lock up at random, and I've had problems with earlier versions as well. Considering that I've never seen any performance difference between the OS X internal drivers and the web drivers, I'd say there's almost no reason to use them unless you need CUDA. Try switching back to the OS X driver, rebooting, and see if that helps.

Came here to ask myself the same question! My Hackintosh has been working fine for months. Today I got a new monitor with a 2560x1440 resolution and I have a similar problem. Yosemite 10.10.3 boots fine, showing the BIOS screen, than Multibeast and the Apple logo. Then the output signal goes away and the monitor in sleep mode. However Yosemite runs perfectly. To get a picture again, I have to disconnect and reconnect the DisplayPort cable from my Hackintosh. That's pretty inconvenient because I need to get behind the desk and pull it up every time...

Any idea what it could be? I'm using the standard OSX graphics drivers and DisplayPort 1.2.

So I have disabled the use of DisplayPort 1.2 in my Monitor Settings now using DP 1.1a.

Since then I don't get the mentioned error anymore and everything works as usual. Can't 100% confirm that this does the trick, though...

OP, have you found a solution yet?

I have a similar problem...I boot fine into the OS. When the monitor goes to sleep (not the computer), the video card or monitor will cycle through a wake up to a black screen then back to sleep. I can either power off or remote logon and shutdown. OS is running fine in the background. No video.

Yosemite 10.10.3
eVGA GTX 750 TI FTW
Latest nvidia drivers
4k monitor running at 3840 x 2160
DisplayPort 1.2

Not sure how to debug this one.

What system definition are you using?

SOLVED...for me.

Problem is I made two changes and I'm not sure which one did the trick, but since it works I'm not looking back.

1st change: In clover, under SSDT I now have "Drop OEM" = True. (I think this did it for me...)
2nd change: Updated my graphics driver for NVidia of the 366.01.02f04 from 366.01.02f03. I don't know what really changed in the driver but...

Now I have full sleep support for the monitor (no black screen and no reboot on wake). I will experiment with the full computer sleep next.

Sorry about the (very) late reply, I somehow managed to forget about this thread for 3 whole months... Anyway, I figured out the issue.
I originally had two monitors connected- my primary via DVI, and my secondary via DVI-I to VGA. I noticed that whenever I tried booting with my secondary VGA monitor unplugged, and only my main DVI monitor connected, it worked fine every time. And then, if after booting like that I try to plug the 2nd VGA monitor back in, I would get some strange results. Around a third of the time the system would kernel panic immediately after plugging in the VGA cable. Another third of the time, there would simply be no signal to the VGA monitor, while the DVI one continued working fine. And the remaining third, it would work just fine- the VGA monitor turns on as soon as i connect it and I have a perfect signal on both screens.

Around 2 weeks ago, I bought a new HDMI monitor to replace the one I had been using as my primary display (Which i gave to my brother). This meant that I now had a spare DVI cable, so I connected my secondary monitor with it and ditched the VGA cable. So now I have one monitor connected with HDMI, and one using DVI. And my black screen issue is completely gone. It hasn't happened a single time since switching from DVI and VGA to HDMI and DVI. Keep in mind that no graphics drivers or kexts changed, only difference was ditching VGA and adding HDMI.

tl/dr it seems as though my card (GTX 970) has an issue with the VGA output. Just buying a 2nd DVI cable to plug into the DVI-I port instead of the VGA cable could maybe have solved the issue too. Anyways, hope this helped anyone else that has the same problem as I did.

Let me revive this post, because I'm the same issue...
I'm trying to install Yosemite 10.10 and, after a lot of headache with startup the clover, I don't know what is happening but seems like the problem you guys got...

in Verbose mode, the loading seems to complete. All white letter disappeared, but my monitor enter in sleep mode while the PC still working.

I don't have a DP port in my monitor, only HDMI and DVI. I tested both: nothing. I did the OESM thing: nothing.

Anyonelse have a clue what may be?
