Hello,

I'd like to replace my 29" (21:9) LG 29EA93 with a 34" (21:9) LG 34UM95

253482.jpg

The current one is running 2560x1080 smoothly using DL-DVI on a GTX 750 Ti with nvidia Web Drivers and 10.10.2, the one I'm considering would be 3440x1440.

I've heard that « 4K » won't work at 60Hz, so I was wondering if 3440x1440 would present with the same issue ?

« 4K » is about 8.3 Mpixels, 34UM95 is about 5Mpixels, much less but maybe enough to cause trouble ?

Thanks for the help

Hi. tv's have problems running 4k on 60hz, but thats only on gpus that dont have the hdmi 2.0 protocol or that they just dont support 4k 60hz.

the UM95 is a PC monitor and it should have displayport, so short answer is: yes your gpu will run the 3440x1440 at 60hz since thats what the monitor is rated.

btw Acer is releasing a ultrawide curved with 75hz. i want it but its so expensive that i clench just thinking about it

I can confirm that it works natively at 60Hz using the Displayport output of the GTX 750 Ti and mDisplayport of the Dell U3415W.

@GribTT,

I very recently upgraded to a LG 34UC97, and was also concerned if my GPU would run 3440x1440 @ 60Hz prior to getting the monitor. I have Nvidia GTX 660 OC (which is a very similar spec'ed card as your 750 except a chip generation behind). It drives the monitor with no problem when perfoming desktop work, i'm not into gaming on this rig so high FPS in gaming is not a requirement. Your GTX 750 TI will run the monitor absolutely fine @60Hz as long as you connect it via Display Port.

I've been pleasantly surprised just how well the GTX 660 runs the Monitor,

I would expect to see a increase of around 10-15 % with your GTX 750 TI Card as long as your not CPU limited., See my thread here for a bit more info:-

Thanks for the infos !

I haven't run any benchmark on OSX yet, just tried CS:GO under Windows 7 at 3440x1440, maximum visual setting + Anisotropic 16x and MSAA 4x, it never dropped under 100 fps and both CPU and GPU maxed out at 44° C.

This card performs really well :)
Apparently the GTX 660 is 11% faster that the GTX 750 Ti, but requires 100 more watt to do so.

PS: I tried the HDMI out of curiosity, but it's limited to 30 Hz.

@GribTT,

That really surprise me, I thought 750 was next gen to the 660? i know they have similar freq, memory, cuda cores .. etc but your TI even more so ?

Would be interesting to see what benchmarks you get running the Valley Demo at 3440x1440 and 1600x900, just run it with defaults and select benchmark.

Cheers

I don't have access to that computer before Sunday, but I'll keep you posted once I get the result of the benchmarks.

I'm not surprised that the 750 doesn't perform has well as the 660. The architecture has changed so frequencies aren't necessarily proportional anymore. Plus, new cards don't have to be faster.
Looking at the automobile industry and considering a car "A" powered by a 180 hp engine doing 30 MPG, if the next iteration of that engine in the same car now does 50 MPG and still delivers 180 hp it is a great improvement. Progress is better measured by efficiency rather that raw power and to me with the maxwell architecture nvidia has done a very good job.
