Hello all, perhaps this is not possible to achieve but am i able to install Yosemite onto my Smasung Evo 500GB SSD? I follow the guide at http://www.tonymacx86.com/yosemite-...-x-yosemite-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html step by step with success up to STEP 4, 6i, where my PC gives me the error:

Partition Failed
Partitiion failed with the error:
Couldn't unmount disk.

I presume if the SSD is unmounted everything would just die, as its the only drive i have in the PC (well teh only one connected, all other drives have data or windows 7). I bought the SSD especially for installing OSX.

Any help would be much appreciated. Will now fill out my profile with all my system specs too! Thanks in advanced.

Oops sorry moderators for initially posting in the wrong area and thank you for moving (not deleting) my post.

I also really like my avatar, bares a striking resemblence to me!

I've also had a thought... If i were to add a mechanical HDD into the setup, just for installation, would that somehow permit me to continue past this error?

UPDATE:

I have been reading online that a few people have experienced the same issue so i thought i'd update my findings for anyone following the thread.

The issue can occur because of 3 things:
Faulty SATA cable
Faulty SSD drive
Faulty Disk Utility in Snow Leopard.

I have just tried swapping out the SATA cable and now a new error has surfaced at the Step 4/6i of the install guide:

Partition Failed
Partition failed with error:
Couldn't open device

Still no joy in getting through the install guide but the fact that its coming up with a new error might indicate a dodgy cable.

I will now try the SSD in an enclosure connected via USB, as ive read some people have found success with this method.

OK so i have made some progress!!!

Where the "Couldn't open device" error was showing above, i simply tried disk utility again but this time i did a repair on the disk. It did repair the disk however i was still unable to select it as target drive for teh osx install.

So i just clicked back to get to the OSX language selection screen, accepted Ts & Cs, ran disk utility AGAIN and followed the steps as per the install guide, but this time IT DID allow Disk Utility to partition the drive and now the installer is happily installing OSX! Yay

Will update if any other problems occur and post my specs in the guide area, hopefully as a success story in a few moments.

Ok so i think i've killed my machine :banghead:

I went through all the options on multibeast using the guide and other success stories to influence my selections, however after installing and doing a restart i get this screen?

I will say however that i selected the Sandy Bridge core i5/i7 overclock option in the Multibeast DSDT settings, even though my CPU is an Ivy Bridge (under windows im running it at 4.7GHz with water cooling) but my motherboard chipset is Sandy Bridge i think? Or have i completely fluffed this up?

Perhaps thats the culprit, but how do i now get back to OSX to change the options?

I have tried -x to safe boot but same thing happens? :problem:

Try booting with :

-v -x -f -F kext-dev-mode=1

Many Thanks Pilgrim fro getting back to me, i did as advised... i was hopeful, but here is the result:

Maybe there is a way for me to change some CPU settings from the flag? Any other ideas?

At this stage it's just as quick to reinstall as it is to troubleshoot.

Yep i hear ya! I was going to suggest that too, however is there anything in particular the BSOD text is pointing toward as the culprit in your opinion so i dont make the same mistake again? i did take a screen shot of my previous settings... of course i left it on the OSX desktop DOH!

Probably the inappropriate MultiBeast selections you made.

Get a stable system up and running before looking at things like overclocking.

Make small changes and note them down or you will never know what you did that broke it / or worked.
