I've been having trouble re-installing Yosemite on my computer. I had it running reasonably well for a couple of months, but recently the hard drive became corrupted and was no longer able to boot. I suspect that this might have been caused by a graphics issue as Youtube videos tended to suffer distortion.

I have connected an external USB hard drive to the computer and have installed Yosemite using Unibeast. I'm hoping to be able to get the data off of the corrupted hard drive in the computer before I reformat it.

The problem I have now is that I have been unable to boot into the desktop. The computer hangs at either Missing Bluetooth Controller or Resetting IOCatalogue, which I assume indicates a problem with the GPU. I've tried hundreds of different combinations of boot arguments, but can't find one that will let me get into the desktop.

Can anyone help?

The hardware I'm using is in my profile, just in case anyone was wondering.

Are trying to install 10.10.3??

Thanks for the reply - I did have it running with 10.10.3, but it will be 10.10.1 on the Unibeast installer. Any ideas?

Remove graphics card and install OS X with integrated graphics.

I've tried to complete the installation both with the graphics card in the machine and using the on board graphics, but can't get past the Resetting IOCatalogue either way. I've been trying -x, -f, GraphicsEnabler=Yes/No, PCIRootUID=1/0, npci=0x3000, npci=0x2000, maxmem=4096 and ATIConfig=Uakari/Zonalis in many, many different combinations. -x GraphicsEnabler=Yes PCIRootUID=0 npci=0x3000 gets it through the installer with the graphics card in, but then it won't boot into the desktop with any combination that I've tried so far.

Which combination of boot flags would you recommend for my hardware?

Means are you able to complete the first phase of the installation??

Post a photo of the frozen screen.

That's right - I've completed the first phase of the installation, but when it reboots at the end it doesn't make it all the way to the desktop.

I've attached a picture of the screen after booting with no boot flags except -v. The graphics card is in the computer. I haven't seen the ConsiderRebuildOfPrelinkedKernel message before.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply - any ideas?

Try to boot with -f -v -x and then "/System/Library/Kernels/kernel -v -x"

Hi Jithin, thanks again for the reply. I managed to install Snow Leopard from an Install DVD on the USB hard drive, then I transferred the data from the corrupted internal drive, disconnected the USB HD, reformatted the corrupted drive and was able to install Yosemite using the USB stick. Must have been an issue with installing Yosemite on an external hard drive.
