I have done mine "upgraded" from Mountain Lion (2 yrs ago) -> Mavericks( 1 yr ago) -> Yosemite (a week ago), all without any issues. Yup, it's an upgrade. NOT even a full clean install.

I have to switch to Clover because of its flexibility. But, you pick whatever that worked for you, and worked for mine.

Here is the config.plist for Clover I use for my motherboard (GA-Z77X-UP5-TH) + NVIDIA GTX 650Ti BOOST. I disable the Intel GFX as I am not using it.

I am not going through how to use Clover, as you can find many guides on the internet how to use it.

1) Copy and replace config.plist to EFI/CLOVER. (You can make a backup if you wish)
2) Copy FakeSMC.kext and AppleIntelE1000e.kext to EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.10
3) Copy HFSPlus.efi to EFI/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI
4) Remove the EFI/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI/VBoxHfs-64.efi

The config.plist has the on-the-fly patch to enable the TRIM for non-apple branded SSD. kext-dev-mode=1 is added in the config as well.

That's all you need. Follow the instruction http://www.tonymacx86.com/yosemite-desktop-guides/144426-how-install-os-x-yosemite-using-clover.html how to create the USB drive but use my instructions above to configure the clover, you should have a fully working system.

Extra info:-
- No, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext is NOT needed.
- The onboard sound is not working without custom Kext. I am using XtremeMac USB TangoBar therefore I don't use the onboard sound. You can install the onboard sound from MultiBeast if you wish to.
- I have not used MultiBeast for any other driver, but you might have different setup.

Edit:

- To fix onboard sound- ALC898 - follow this guide http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/112458-mavericks-audio-realtek-alc-applehda-guide.html

To use Apple services (Message, Facetime, iClound), you will need to configure the smbios. Use Clover Configurator for that.
This link provides all the information you need to get the services working - http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-help/110471-how-fix-imessage.html

Do you know if this config would also work with a GA-Z77X-UD5H and GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 660 Ti Card? Im running my current setup with Chimera, wanted to switch to Clover to see if I can fix an issue Im having with Skype, if I leave it running, for some reason my system will freeze and needs a reboot. No Skype running and system is smooth as a baby's bottom!

Thanks

BrazilMac,

Yeah, should be no problem. The config is very generic as long as your GFX card is one of the supported Nvidia card.

If you are using onboard sound, you will need to install the kext from MultiBeast. I am using usb XtrameMac Tango soundbar, therefore, sound is not a problem for me and yes, I don't use the onboard sound.

Did you have to update your BIOS ? - What did you use ?
Did you have to update the BIOS of the graphic card ? (because of GOP)

Thanks for letting us know
regards
Gerhard

Nope, I don't have to update the BIOS, I was using F11 before, but F12 is out, so I just updated the BIOS to F12. And of course, there is no issue with it.

and no, I have not updated the GFX bios of the card.

Thanks for this post k2309!

I'm going to give this a go tonight (Clover virgin here) as i have the same board, CPU and near-enough the same graphics (GTX 660Ti). Fingers crossed its plain sailing. Just wondered if you might have any Bios config settings to share too? :)

I'm going to set to optimised defaults to begin with, and tinker from there. Like you I've always disabled the integrated graphics and set my graphics to default to PEG in the Bios.

Here a Bios Profile from my Z77X-UP5-TH (oc 4,2) optimized for OS X
It´s made from Bios v.12a but i´m pretty sure that i will work with v.12
Unzip to a Fat formattet USB stick and use the Load Profile option in Bios
It´s set to "Legacy Boot Only" but you kwow how to change that if you wan´t UEFI i suppose.

Right now i´m using F12j mod9 from Tweaktown patched with Ozmosis 1479 and i can boot
any OS X version OOB without installing any kexts or Extra folder :)

arehep - Thanks that's really kind of you - thanks. :)

I'm probably gonna read up a bit more before I take the plunge with replacing my bios as I'm not totally clear on the whole UEFI business yet. Will look at the tweak town and osmosis 1479 mods you mentioned too and see what they are all about. I'd like to know what's been changed or added with those mods in other words.

I had kind of hoped the BIOS wouldn't require too much messing around with... basically so that if I'm having trouble getting Clover up and running I can just swap back over to my current working Chimera install of Yosemite to get a working system again.

Thanks arehep for this share did you share the Bios F12j mod9 from Tweaktown patched with Ozmosis 1479 ?

It's possible to boot on Windows 8.1 (UEFI Dual Boot separate HDD) with this Bios or it's only Mac OS X ?

You can get the bios from here:

http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/48085-gigabyte-modified-bios.html

You can read about patching it with Ozmosis here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/291655-ozmosis/

And here: ((download Ozmosis.zip)

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/301407-guide-insert-ozmosis-into-uefi-bios/

Yes it supports both OS X and Windows (both UEFI and Legacy Boot)

I won't share mine as it contains info unique to my OSX (MLB and Hardware ROM)

Good Luck
