Hi everyone,

I have beed struggling since Friday to upgrade my Z77-DS3H/Core i5 3570K/Intel HD 4000 but I always faced problems, mainly with sound not working. I did it finally so I though that this might help someone else too.

This guide is for upgrading a Mavericks 10.9.5 system. Please backup first before attempting to follow it!!!

1) Download and install Chimera 4.0.0
2) Erase /Extra/modules/FileNVRAM.dylib (sudo rm /Extra/modules/FileNVRAM.dylib)
3) Erase /System/Library/Extensions/GenericUSBXHCI.kext (sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/GenericUSBXHCI.kext)
4) Edit /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist and remove:

<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>

5) Create a bootable USB using UniBeast 5
6) Boot from USB and install OS X Yosemite over your existing Mavericks installation
7) After the installation is complete reboot and boot into your new Yosemite installation. (no need to boot from USB!!!)
8) Run MultiBeast and install only: Drivers > Network> Atheros> ALXEthernet v1.0.2
9) Reboot and your network should work at this point.
10) Download https://www.dropbox.com/s/7ltbag4kvf...8.4+Lion.zip, extract and install VoodooHDA-v2.8.4.pkg.
11) Reboot and your sound will be back. (You will have to select the output/input source from System Preferences)
12) Remove /System/Library/Extensions/GenericUSBXHCI.kext
13) Download the new USB kext (https://bitbucket.org/RehabMan/os-x-generic-usb3/downloads/RehabMan-Generic-USB3-2014-1016.zip)
14) Use KextBeast to install it and reboot.

Your system now should be running Yosemite without any problems and much faster that Mavericks!!!

can you show me how yo sey the org.chameleon.boot.plist file , thanks!

Will this work on a H77-DS3H? Two days wasted trying to get yosemite up an running :(

Which rev board are you using? The rev.1.0 board works with the ALC887 current in MultiBeast. No need for VoodooHDA.

I have exactly the same motherboard/processor but this did not work for me. Followed your guide to the letter. Having the same missing mach_kernel issue most other people are having.

Hi,

Thanks for the hints! I'm about to do an attempt of an upgrade on a similar system.

I'm a little confused about the steps 1-4 though, especially why you would need to delete kexts and edit the boot.plist file on the existing Mav installation. Is that because you start by installing Chimera 4.0 on your Mav installation? And would you be able to still boot into Mav after doing steps 1-4?

The first couple of steps just confuse me because normally I would think you would only have to touch files on the USB until you actually start installing the OS.

My setup is such that I actually have two Mav installations on a SSD disk. One is my main system, and the other is on a tiny 15gb partition where I can safely experiment with upgrades, new OS versions, new kexts etc without bringing my main installation in danger. I was actually planning on trying out the Yos install on my small partition while leaving my main Mav install alone. But what would happen if I install Chimera 4.0 as part of the process?

Thanks!

Kasper

The steps 1-4 were taken from someone else and they helped me solve an issue I had with the kernel not being able to load. I also discovered that installing Chimera 4.0 before allowed me to boot into the updated OS without having to boot from the USB again. My main problem as I recall was sound. When I tried to fix the sound with other guides It would simply not work and faced other issues too.
