Mac OS X Mountain Lion and Windows 7 dual boot problem

Hey guys,

A friend of mine has a Mac Book. I tried Mac OS X o n his machine and I wanted to have it, too. But I didn't want to spend so much money for a iMac or Mac Book. I decided to turn my normal Windows PC into a Hackintish!

Because I am all new to this, I wanted to build a dual boot system with windows 7 and the newest Mac OS X. In order to do that I had to change my mbr based partition sheme into guid. I've done that using a tool called gparted live cd.
I knew that Windows would not boot anymore so I copied the important data to a partition that I created for this. I erased all other partitions and created two new ones. One for Windows and one for OS X.

As the instructions told me, I installed Windows first in UEFI mode. It created two partitions. A efi boot partition and a msr partition. After that I restored my data from the backup partition I mentioned above. Everything worked and I deleted the backup partition.

Now I installed Mac OS X ML using the unibeast drive I created with my friends Mac Book. Everything worked after I installed multibeast (I installed chameleon bootloader).

My problem is that I cant boot into Windows 7 anymore! The Mac OS X installer seems to have deleted the efi and the msr partitions and used them for it's own bootloader. When I choose Win 7 in chameleon it shows me this error message:

bootmgr is missing
press ctrl+alt+del to reboot

What can I do to fix that? I can access my jmportant data through mac os x but I want to boot Windows cuz I need it!!!

Ok I deleted the Mac OS X partition and all other partition exept of the partiton, where Windows is installed in and recreated its efi and msr partition. Windows is working fine now. I have about the half of my 1,5 TB harddisk free space and I want to install Mac OS X ML in there. Windows 7 is already installed in UEFI mode or whatever this mode is called.

How do I install Mac OS X without destroying the Windows bootsector so I can dual boot these two operatingsystems?

Bump. I have exactly the same problem as you, and I've no idea what to do anymore. I've tried everything. Reinstalled everything in every possible configuration and sequence, all according to the guide. Still no luck

I think that its just impossible to install Windows and Mac OS X both in UEFI mode!:

I got it to work now, but I had to completely repartition my HDD. Luckyly my dad gave me his notebook to repair it, so I could take its harddisk to secure my data.

Follow this guide and don`t forget to backup your data to another physical harddrive or any other media!

The guide says:`boot into your existing mac os x installation`. If you don´t have one, just boot into your unibeast drive.

Thanks for the warning, but I'm on a brand new Hackintosh, so there's nothing to back up on it : D
That's the guide I was using myself. Did you use iBoot as well? I wanted to download it, but I thought that the guide was a bit outdated, since the iBoot download page said that it only works with Snow Leopard, so I ignored that step. After I've done the whole Terminal Commands step, my Windows partition got messed up. >.<
For me the problem seems to be in the bootloaders. Once I install one(I've tried a lot of 'em), one of the partitions won't boot. Booting through the USB's boot loader works fine. I've wiped and reinstalled everything like 10 times already, still no luck

Yeah you´re right this guide is quite outdated. Which version of OS X do want to install? I used the unibeast+multibeast method http://www.tonymacx86.com/61-unibeast-install-os-x-mountain-lion-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html).

There are a few passages crossed out in the guide. Don´t follow them!
I´ll shorten the guide a bit so that it´ll work… hopefully:

1. Partition your hard drive
1.1. Boot into your unibeast usbkey (if you want to install Snow Leopart, boot into the install dvd using iBoot)
1.2. Open diskutility (I guess you know how it works)
1.3. choose your hard drive and click partition tab
1.4. under Volume Sheme choose 2 partitions
1.5. click options and choose GUID Partition Table and confirm it by clicking ok
1.6. click Untitled 1 and name it Mac OS X or Macintosh HD or Snow Leopart or Mountain Lion or whatever you want
format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1.7. click Untitled 2 and name it Windows 7
format to MSDOS (FAT)
1.8. click apply and restart your computer

2. Install Windows 7
2.1. Boot into your Windows 7 install DVD
2.2. click install now -> choose custom (advanced) -> choose Partition 3: Windows 7
2.3. click drive options (advanced) -> click format -> click ok
2.4. click next to install Windows

3. Install Mac OS X
3.1 after you set up Windows, boot into your unibeast usbkey (or iBoot and Snow Leopart dvd)
3.2. install Mac OS X to partition 2 that you called whatever you like. (it´s the only drive where you can install OS X in)

4. Install Multibeast
4.1 once the installation has finished, boot into your usbkey (iBoot) and choose your Mac OS X installation
4.2 finish the setup and download multibeast
4.3 put it on your desktop and run it from there
4.4 install multibeast (there are many instructions on how to do that)
4.5 restart your computer and let it boot from your hard drive as you would always do
4.6. you should end up on the chimera boot loader screen. If you don´t press any key, Mac OS X should boot automatically. To boot Windows, just press any key and choose your Windows installation.

5. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you get it to work now! It took me 2 weeks to get it to work. Don´t give up, it´s definitely worth it!

I actually have been using this guide myself and everything has been booting fine (Well, with the multibeast USB it was ). My problem was that as soon as I installed any kind of a bootloader things would stop working.
What I've tried so far was using the "Would you mind elaborating on your Multibeast installation? Which setting did you use/Install to make your system boot from your drive?
Also, in my bios settings, all my SSD partitions are viewed as UEFI partitions. Could that be the root of the problem?

No your partition shame should be all right, since you partitioned your hard drive correctly (provided you followed the guide!)

Did you change (or maybe it was already) your SATA Mode to AHCI in your BIOS settings?
When you´re trying to boot into one of your installations, is there any error message or just a grey or blue screen?
I had the problem that the chimera bootloader doesn´t support my AMD Radeon HD 6670. I fixed this by using the command "GraphicsEnabler=No". But I don´t think that this is your problem because you could boot into your installation media properly.

You have to know that I´m all new to hackintoshing (funny word), too, so I can only help you with problems I had myself!

If it doesn´t work now, check whether your hardware is compatible or not. Since you said that you have an new hackintosh, i expect that you chose the right hardware. If not,........ don´t even think about it

Oh man, it finally works!
I used your guide up to the point of the Multibeast installation. Then I used this guys' (http://www.tonymacx86.com/golden-bu...-i7-3770k-gigabyte-geforce-gtx-660-ti-24.html) build story and his Multibeast settings and it worked!

Dear Friends! i prepared bootable usb but during booting, there is no option appeared to boot from usb. All other partitions showing. So, i am unable to boot from usb. I have Windows7 ultimate installed on C: and i have a separate hdd (100GB) and want install Mountain Lion on this hdd. My system is HP Pavilion h8-1301ex (i7-3770, graphic HD 7450 with 16 GB Ram). Please guide to boot from USB.
