Hi,

I run a Mountain Lion Hackintosh .
I want to run Windows 7 from a second hard drive. How can I install windows and run it without having to reinstall OSX or mess around with my running OSX drive?

Or is it the same (or even easier) procedure making a second partition on my OSX boot drive?

I already created a Windows USB, but it doesn't boot from it…

Sorry - I am not a Pro, so I need some guidance here.

thanx, luke

If you are creating a USB installer from a Windows iso downloaded from the net the best way is to use the Windows Download Tool available at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool

It works similar to UniBeast - download to tool, download the iso, run the tool and it creates a bootable USB from the iso.

For installing, connect your separate Windows-to-be HDD/SSD
Disconnect ALL other drives - this prevents Windows installer from installing Windows boot files to any other drive.

Install Windows -
Note: If you use Chimera/Chameleon as your boot loader, boot the USB with the hot key that allows you to select your boot device. You will see 2 instances of your windows installer
USB - Windows installer
EFI USB - Windows installer
Select the USB - Windows installer. If you select the EFI one Chimera cannot boot the Windows drive.

Once you have Windows installed, keep running the updater until it says you have no updates available.
Shutdown, connect your other drives, boot to BIOS and set the OS X drive as first in BBS Boot Order.
Save&exit and continue boot.

Worked well. I had to install virtualBox first to be able to use the Windows Download Tool, but with this I could manage...

Thanks a lot!
