Hello,

So I've been interested in installing Windows 10 on my hackintosh for a while. Before I go ahead and install it, I just wanted to get an idea of how well it runs. If it does run well, is there any chance I can get it onto my hackintosh without loosing any of my data? I would be installing this over USB (obviously). This looks like a very interesting operating system and I can't wait to get my hands on it if I can.

I would suggest getting a separate drive just for Windows. It would make it a lot easier. But Win 10 is great. It's a little buggy, but what do you expect from the developer release. If you're a security guy, it might create problems because it "calls home" (When the OS is setting up connections between your computer and the "home", Microsoft) a lot.

Windows 10 is an attempt to amalgamate the horrible Windows 8 Metro interface back into the Windows 7 desktop. It is much better IMHO than Win8/8.1 but still not as good as Windows 7. Too much of the Win8 interface remains within it for my tastes, but then, some people liked the touch-screen metro interface because it was so similar to the iPhone/iPad touch interface. This type interface is OK on mobile devices, but really does not do as well in a desktop environment. I predict business environments will remain with Win7 Enterprise until Windows 11 or whatever they call it then comes out, skipping Win8 and Win10 entirely.

No. Windows 10 is a developer preview. Not even a customer preview. Therefore it's unstable, slow here and there and simply not ready for everyday-use.

I've downloaded the official release I'm having loads of problems with it where only one monitor works the other 2 don't work out of 3 monitors also it keeps blue screening and this is the official release which is released today not sure why it keeps blue screening tho

Replying to the post question: In my opinion, NO (bigger)!

I am using two disks, an SSD for Yosemite and a SATA for Yosemite Data and a small partition for Windows but I'm 97% of the time on Mac.

I had previously Win7 just to play games or for emergencies (as some company software are old client/server apps developed for win only) and as I was curious I decided to updated to Win10...

On installation I found that you need to customize privacy options as there are too many switches to say "Disable" or your informations can be sent to MS officially just for "helping you to improve your experience".......not to open an advertising campaign with you data, no no no....

In my opinion Win10 is heavier that 7 in terms of that too many informations are literally thrown on screen, tiles, news, weather, and it's a little confusing to me to use.
Then, the start menu still occupy a great portion of the screen, and at the beginning I didn't find usual screens under control panel for updating unrecognized drivers, so I spent hours installing again the OS and drivers...

In terms of gaming performance I saw an Nvidia post telling that with new DX12 the improvement on games is xxx % bla, bla, bla but I didn't find any difference with Witcher 3 (Nvidia Gift!).

So finally for me it's a bigger NO! I would like to revert on 7 that fits my needs (but I'm 20 years of experience programmer so my opinion could help someone else)

W10 it's much more an advertising program rather than an OS, and this could be the reason it's offered free (for genuine users!)

I've been trying out Win 10 for one day now and my first impressions are that it is a major
improvement over 8/8.1. Whether I will upgrade my Win 7 PC I haven't decided yet. One
more note on the copying of OS X Yosemite and Apple's business model. Look at this stock
wallpaper that is included in the 5 wallpapers that come with it:

Anyone see any connection here to Yosemite / El Capitan ? How about how they represent their
Windows Store employees ?

See below how Apple has depicted their staff for some years now.

they are not copying Apple they are copying Google
guess nobody told microsoft that windows is for productivity not enforcing consumption.
if i want consumption i can just boot android or ios capable device.
Microsoft should rename Windows 10 to Hoops because of how many you have jump thru.

  • can't change volume levels for individual apps(including system apps) but can for regular desktop applications
  • EFI partition accessible only from hidden administrator account(you can mount it but not access it in regular admin)
  • Microsoft changed default applications during installation even though i inputted as not
  • Microsoft "removed bloatware" but installed 3rd party applications and automatically authorized in windows firewall(ie twitter, candycrush, etc)
  • Can't uninstall or disable non-essential Microsoft Bloatware
  • when running desktop apps in tablet mode can't access on screen keyboard manually(taskbar icon disappears)
  • settings app and control panel still control enough different items that both are needed to be used
  • built-in flash plugin is automatically activated and can be deactivated but not uninstalled(i have been flash free since 2013)
  • hiding even more privacy and security settings by having to login to microsoft website to disable them
  • cortana runs regardless if disabled or not
  • the microsoft account login doesn’t bother me as it was there for win8/8.1 and i setup not use it then/now and individually sign-in/sign-out when needed in the app but win10 hides the logout under 4 clicks instead 2 like win8/8.1
