Microsoft is holding a special event today at 10AM Pacific / 1PM Eastern to announce 'The future of Windows and the enterprise'.

There is no live video of this downplayed invitation-only event. It's expected that Microsoft will announce a free update for Windows desktop users (named Windows 9?) with the return of the Start menu, and ditching the Start 'overlay' that never quite worked well for mouse/keyboard users.

Windows 10, eh?

I wonder if Microsoft was anticipating some OS-9 trouble.

i don't use windows i only use mac i think microsoft is awful tbh

and by what stretch of the imagination is apple any better?

As is your grammar and punctuation. Just kidding, they both have their upsides.

Wow, MS really wants to distance themselves from the Windows 8 debacle.
So much so that they jumped to Windows 10 instead of 9. Is this just another
way they're copying Apple's business model since OS X (10) has gained more
market share and users are actually willing to update every year or so lately ?

Maybe it's because nine (nein) sounds like no in German.

Here's how the future Windows Nine ad could have read:

Windows Nine, the only OS that is completely Windows free. Pay only $99.99 for a blank
DVD disc that you can burn any OS to and install it on your existing hardware.

or Windows X, Everything that Windows 8 Windows 8.1/9 should have been and more !

Genius at work up in Redmond, WA. Profits will be through the roof in 2015.

Seriously though, I'm glad to see that they are finally listening to what their customers want
and will dump the Start Screen and make it more friendly to desktop users, maintaining the
good parts of Windows 7. Will be interesting to see how many businesses will upgrade to 10
from 7 in the Fall of 2015.

I think it is stupid that microsoft is like this now. But did it look like they copied mac on the desktops?

I used to be a microsoft fanboy until I found out about this forum. I decided to hackintosh because of my skill in computers also I like to try new things.
