I recently switched from Chimera to Clover and Clover will not boot the Win 8 SSD. Chimera would let me choose the Windows SSD at boot time without problems but with Clover it just hangs on a blinking underline cursor.

Clover solved the iMessage /AppStore issue I had when Mavericks came along.

To answer your post title question - No. Re-install is required as reformatting the HDD/SSD is required.
How many Windows icons show up on the clover boot selection screen?

Only one Windows icon shows up.

I just also found out that Microsoft wont let me use their Win 8.1 image to reinstall with my original 8.0 license. It appears that I would have to install Win 8.0 FIRST and then go through the update all over again instead of going directly to 8.1.

Also, my GA-Z77X-UP5 TH motherboard does not appear to have a UEFI option for my BlueRay player. So how could I install the OS in EUFI mode?

You might need to update your BIOS to latest.

If you have already installed Win8/updated to Win8.1 once and want to install new, suggest you clean the drive and prep it for the UEFI install first with this procedure:
- boot Windows installer media
- at first screen press Shift+F10 to get command prompt
- type: diskpart
- type: list disk (so you're certain on the disk you're working with, confirms disk 0 if only one drive is connected)
- type: select disk 0
- type: clean (should be obvious what this does:lol:)
- type: convert gpt
- type: create partition efi size=260
- type: format quick fs=fat32 label="EFI"
- type: exit
- type: exit

Now reboot to BIOS. Set optimum defaults, then make settings for OS X.
Hold the function key thay allows you to select a boot device and select the UEFI Windows installer drive from the list and boot with it.
