Hi guys, I really hope anyone could help me.

I really need to build Hackintosh really soon, I'm an editor working mainly on FCP-X 10.0.6 and Motion 5 with minor graphic works on CS6. Best performance on CS 6 is not really a concern as long as I can work with it. Big concern with FCP-X 10.0.6. I work mainly on HD format around 30-45mins. durations..

I've been reading so many threads everywhere, but seems like so many different views out there with different problems.

Could anyone please advise an up to date recommended build ?? especially what GPU to use ??

I'm a complete noob with hackintosh and not an IT guy either, please take it easy with tech terms..

I really appreciate your help guys..

Its my experience that FCPX has no GPU specific requirements. I've used a 460 and a 660TI and there has been no benefit. Look at my profile. Seems that I have no use for Thunderbolt, its there just in case, since USB3 and esata work perfectly. One thing, turn off background render (FCPX locks and this seems to slow the locks down) and be sure to choose better performance rather than High Quality display.

All in all I have a very satisfactory build with Geekbench 64 at 15000. My 2008 Mac Pro tower scores 11000. Good enough until the end of the year.

Don't forget to load the machine with a start SSD (Samsung 840 pro 128 is the best there is) and dual 4TB drives. I currently use Hitachi. USB 3 is fast enough for use as an external event and project drive. My projects are all 1080p from AVCHD. I render out to Prores 422 for archive purposes and burn them to Blurays booting in Windows to do it. (Titanium Pro fails when burning Bluray BR-R in UDF format).

Certainly is quick. A second monitor displays my event files and I use Intelligent Assistant's event manager to handle al the details.

Just a passing thought: once you have a stable build buy a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner and make another SSD, rerun Multibeast and repair permissions. I use an SSD dock which allows me to change SSDs externally. The same machine boots Windows 7 and 8 and OSX. Windows 8 is piggish so swapping SSD prevents it from screwing up OSX.

Tuxera makes a good NTFS driver for OSX. I can read and write the NTFS storage drives which allows me flexibility in program selection. Nothing seems to top Proshow for stills and I use Proshow to generate mpeg2 output which I convert to ProRes and put the results on the FCPX timeline.

Pretty cool.

Hello dakotaht,

I'm new to the computer building world and I'm taking on a Hackintosh as my first project. It's been a bit overwhelming, especially since I hope to buy most, if not all, of my components on Cyber Monday/Black Friday.
I was curious if I could possibly, in the future, send a few small questions about your build to this thread, kind of keep this question alive? You left a very detailed answer and additionally after looking at your build you say you also dual boot? I'm specifically building this to run FCP and I had wanted to dual boot (until I realized how expensive this will all be just running OS haha) so your build, although one of the first I've looked at, seems to have a lot of similarities with my ultimate set up. If you're not up to me asking, I don't mind at all. :)

Cheers,
imaniconnie
