Comments

After long time testing and testing with this build, i have change lot of parts and i did a lot of tests. I think now it´s time to update this thread and make a new guide.

So, here we go:

Background

The first and more important to me of getting this Motherboard working on MacOs Mountain Lion is just one question:

Which Bios version are you using?

Bios version 0703 (and lower):

- System works with SpeedStep

- Cpu works from lower to higher (no turbo) speed clock (two Steps).

- Graphics Cards: nVidia over 6xx series needs to configure BIOS to work. Boot without the GraphicsCard (using onboard), enter Bios, change the option related (i don´t remember what is, but i think is on Pci menu). After that restart and insert the graphics card.

- Windows 8 doesn´t work (it´s the main change on Bios after that version, .cap file)

Bios version over 3302:

- GTX over 6xx series works native.

- Windows 8 works

- CPU SpeedStep must be disabled on BIOS, CPU Clock fixed (i must check this one again), latest bios Cpu Clock is fixed to max.

- PCI has some changes so it´s necessary to install IOPCIFamily.kext

Installation

Mavericks

First of all, i installed Mavericks on my MacBookPro Retina, but you can do it installing on other mac.

It´s a trick i use to do a system image as fast as i can to use it every time i need it. When the installer reboots, select your original partition system and make a DMG image from the installed partition (fresh).

I have one ssd dedicated to system and other one (cache) where i do the tests. So every time i do tests i use the DMG image, restoring on it.

So, restore a fresh installed 10.9 on you disk and follow these steps

- Multibeast 5.5.4 (not the latest, i don´t know why but latest version is slower and sometimes crashes):
- 3rd Party Sata
- IOAHCI
- FakeSMC (latest).
- FakeSMC plugins + HWmonitor (you can avoid it).
- IntelEthernet
- Chimera (latest)
- SmBios = MacPro 5,1

- Install the two kexts i attached here. (IOPci, AHCI)

- Add "dart=0" on the org.chameleon.boot.plist (thanks to giacomoleopardo).

- Repair permissions and configure com.apple.boot.plist depending to your system / graphics card, on my case GraphicsEnabler=no

Note: Latest USB 3.0 included on MountainLion doesn´t work fine on Mavericks with ASMEDIA. I use CalDigit (you can look for on the MountainLion zip attached here), it works better except two usb on the back of the motherboard.

Mountain Lion:

I installed the minimum options on MultiBeast because i modified some kexts (attached) that i install after MultiBeast is completed.

After that if you don´t install the kexts i attached your system will work, but on system profile you see "Unknown AHCI Host Controller" and ethernet won´t work (you can install kext for ethernet on Multibeast, but it don´t allow you to do Link Aggregation).

The kexts are:

- AHCIPortInjection: Cosmetic, I added Marvel and Intel C602 on the Id.

- IONetworkingFamily: It´s necessary to use Link Aggregation, it still has issues, because every time you reboot every time you have to config you LikAggregation.

- SleepEnabler: Name says.

-CalDigit: Two Kexts to get USB3.0 working. First you have to update the AsMedia firmware from Windows (Search in google "osx86 AsMedia Usb3")

- AppleACPIPlatform + IOPCIFamily : Important, it´s ONLY for 3302 Bios Version, they are the kexts i used to be able to boot on latest bios. I didn´t use it on 0703.

- Dsdt: I attach here my DSDT i extracted from Ubuntu, i think it´s no necessary for me, but maybe it´s useful for audio (i use a Maudio)

Conclusion

My Geekbench Score is 29000.

I´m waiting to get a MacPro 6,1 SmBios, maybe after that we can get TURBO on this machine.

Edit:

Cinebench Score (old):

Cinebench please.

Thank you!

I have tested Cinebench right now, i don´t know if it´s a good result or not because i can´t compare with another similar hardware

klaasharm1980,

To install on 3302 Bios is neccesary to use two kext i attached on the first post, please read the post, it´s explained here, you need IOPCI and AppleACPIPlatform.

monty007,

I will try to upload a fer photos of my build soon.

Don´t put it on this route, install on System/Library/Extensions, you can use kext utility to do it, i use Champlist, it´s very useful.

Also, maybe your graphics card isn´t detected, have you tried with GraphicsEnaler=no ? (or yes)

Hi, salcazar
I would like to send you this message in private but I have not enough post yet.

I'm a young professional in video and cinema industry and I'm lokking to build a Dual Xeon hackintosh really close from yours. I've read the 42 pages of comments in your threads. And you did an amazing work with this , I'm now full ready to buy all the pieces to build this monster. I'm working for a company that ask me to build 3 of these beasts for this summer and I'm really excited about it. I had few experiences with hackintosh, but never with a bigger CPU than a core i7.
The things is that my boss ask me about the real difference of performance between is own MacPro and the new machine that I'm ready to build. Of course if we compare geekbench results there is no comparison, with a 28,000 score, your machine is two times more powerful than his own with 13,800. But I was looking for real comparison like h264 compression time and I found only some Adobe After Effect comparison. We are working with final cut pro 7/X and Compressor. I know that Adobe is a bit further than apple in managing computer performance. Proof is the mercury engine who is using the grapchic power to help the CPU encoding and decoding, that's why I was asking myself about real difference in compression performance/time, I don't know if Compressor will use all the threads, memory, graphic capacity, etc...

So I prepared a 80Mb file wich inlude a 30sec AVCHD rush, a final cut XML sequence with some effects and one Compressor preset, to make everyone I know using a dual Xeon Hackintosh try this compression test. I know it's a bit intrusive but do you think you could try to make this compression with your computer. I tried with my hackintosh : core i5 2.6Ghz, 4Gb Ram and GTX260 and the compression took 45min.
It will help me so much and I'm sure people gonna love this kind of real environment test comparison. You cannot find many on internet or I'm a bad google user :)

Tell me if you have time/motivation to do that, I post this message also in jaylongeee and paradigm threads, they made really cool Dual Xeon build too.

Thank you very much and continue with your great job :D

Nicolas

PS : Sorry for my english, I'm french living in Qc, Canada right now ^^

Instruction :
1. Unpack COMPRESSOR_TEST.zip
1. Open Final Cut pro X
2. Click on File/Import/XML...
3. Select "Test Compression 2.fcpxml" in COMPRESSOR_TEST folder
4. Then link media file by clicking File/Link Event Media.../locate and then select "2013-04-26 16_55_14 (id).mov" in COMPRESSOR_TEST folder. Close the window by clinking Link Media.
5. Finally export the video by clicking File/Send to Compressor.
6. In compressor window drag and drop "Caspevi HD 720p 2,5 mp4 .settings" in COMPRESSOR_TEST folder onto the media and launch the export.

bios settings hangs DMOS has arrived I have a Quadro 4000

HI!I used Z9PE-D8 WS(0703) and two pieces of GTX680.Finally,I made them worked!Only you need to do is changed your PCI relatived to legacy mode not efi mode(First you need another card which can enter mobo's bios). But I find my 10.8.2 is not stable. When I used PR or DAVINCI,it would freeze frequently.I don't know how to solve the problem. And I used 10.8.2 with pure version。
