First build. I modeled this after Stork's Sandy Bridge Z68X-UD3H build found here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=36296.

Used the UniBeast installer to make the USB drive, followed the instructions on how Stork did everything, and installed it. Boom, Lion 10.7.2 was working. Then went and messed with MultiBeast and the DSDT for the board. Honestly, I think I messed up the install 3 or 4 times before I got the hang of how to do MultiBeast.

End result, a machine that has been running in my teaching studio using the onboard HD3000 video to drive two 22" monitors at 1680x1050. One monitor is connected via the DVI port, the other through the HDMI port via a HDMI to DVI cable. Sound works. There are occasional pops, but nothing that I'm worried about. It certainly does not do it while playing something, just when it has not been making any sounds then makes a sound. USB2 works (haven't tested USB3). Firewire port works.

There were a lot of posts I read before deciding on this build complaining about the HD3000 video. I have very little problems with the video. I have seen a few artifacts every now and then, but it isn't a deal stopper at all. And I haven't looked into some of the tweaks suggested in the Stork thread about how to maybe fix it.

There is a strange thing that happens sometimes with the network port. It will sometimes connect, and then disconnect, and connect, then disconnect....around and around until you reboot (which generally fixes the problem) or turn off the port, wait a second, then turn it back on. Once the port is happily connected, it is solid.

Basically, the machine is as fast if not faster than my 2008 2.8 gigahertz dual Xeon Mac ro. Very happy so far. A little nervous about updating to 10.7.3 whenever that comes out.....

I'm pleased that your system has turned out as well as mine. When 10.7.3 comes out, your update will be a piece of cake - just do the following:
  • - Repair Permissions with Disk Utility (or whatever is your favorite utility such as Onyx);
    - run the update, but don't reboot;
    - re-run MulitBeast for Lion; and
    - Repair Permissions again.
If this procedure sounds familiar, then you're a long time Mac OS X user. :D

I don't have the audio popping. I think having my systems plugged into a IOGear DVI/USB KVM switch has gotten around these problems. I have both my Targus BT dongle (Magic Mouse) and the Logitech Unifying dongle (K750 Solar KB Mac Edition) plugged into the KVM switch along with my audio. It all just works. I've got MBPs that occasionally hook up which also work with the KB, MM and audio.

I use Lnx2Mac's Realtek Ethernet driver. I've not experienced any problems with Ethernet that I'm a aware of. :thumbup: If this persists, you might have to RMA the mobo. Ouch! Another test, which I just thought of, is to dual/triple booth with Windows 7 and/or Ubuntu to test to see if the Ethernet shows the same symptoms. If they don't, then it's a Lion driver problem. If you experience this using Lnx2Mac's driver, contact him on his dedicated thread. He'll help you.

The back panel FW400 works fine with either an external hard disk drive or my iSight web cam on Zorro.
