Hi guys,
right this weekend I finished building my first Hackintosh
My goal was to leave the look and function of the Cube in his unique original form as much as possible (the toaster).
So I just changed the parts inside the Cube to almost the CustoMac Mini 2013.
The list of my parts:
MoBo: Gigabyte GA-H87N WiFi
W-LANand BT: BCM943225HMB BCM2070 half mini
CPU: Intel i5-4570S
RAM: 1x 8GB DDR3-1600
HDD: 500GB WD (old Notebook HDD)
SSD: 128GB SanDisk Ultra Plus
ODD: Pioneer Slot-In from a MacBook Pro
Power: PicoPSU 160W + 192W Power Supply
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9i
Case Cooler: Noiseblocker S8-M1
Unfortunately, I forgot to take some pictures from disassembling the Cube and I hope you can imagine
So let's start with the rebuild:
After using jigsaw, angle grinder and some color the bottom plate and the former heat sink look like this.
The MoBo is held by three long screws I former worked with the angle grinder.
Like I expectet, the board fit's like a glove to the inner case.
After some work on the old HDD cage and a SSD holder from Sharkoon the new storage solution fits perfectly.
Because the Cube should be as much original as possible a Slot-In-Drive with SATA-Plug was essential.
I was inspired by kiwisincebirth's guide for selfmade brackets to insert a new ODD but in the end I just fixed it with doublesided 3M Tape.
Time for installation and the first test run:
I installed Mavericks because I like the look of it much more than the new style of Yosemite and I don't think that I will miss any of the new features.
The installation was pretty easy and most features worked out of the box.
After running Multibeast and installing Toledas W-LAN kext I was happy with how everything goes.
But then I couldn't restart the system: It only started in SecureMode. I don't know exactly where the error was: After restore and new set up the BIOS it works well.
There is just no sound, hope I can fix this in the next days.
As we speak about orginality: I modded the power switch with the help of minihack's great guide to keep the original look and function.
Fortunately it was necessary to extend the power supply, so I could kill two birds with one stone.
Closing the cage with the top cover and it's almost finished.
In the next days I will visit the hardware store and look for two screws to fix the power plug.
A preview to the finished rebuild.
Goal reached - in my opinion What do you think?
Best regards from Germany.
