This build came entirely out of necessity when my main workhorse (a 2007 MacBook Pro) kicked the bucket. I didn't want to shell out a couple grand for a new Apple machine, so I two-day-shipped a couple of parts from Amazon and -- well, I'm hooked. :p

I've only ever built one computer, but this little machine was tons of fun to put together. The PS07 provides a nice layout for simple cable management.

I decided to go with the H87 chipset because at this earlier stage I have no interest in overclocking and, let's be honest, just about any new product on the market right now is better than the aging (well, now dead!) components in my MBP, so my standards were pretty low. :mrgreen:


Installation
  1. Follow tonymacx86's OS X Mavericks install guide.
  2. BIOS settings used
    1. Restore optimized defaults[
    2. X.M.P. Memory Profile = Profile1
    3. VT-d = disabled
    4. xHCI = auto
    5. xHCI Hand-Off = enabled
    6. EHCI Hand-Off = enabled
  3. With this particular setup, no boot flags were needed to reach UniBeast
    MultiBeast Shot.png​
  4. Repair permissions, reboot. At this point I got boot0. There's a whole article on how to fix this, but what worked for me was (assuming OS drive is on SATA port 0)....
  5. Restart into UniBeast
    1. Unmount OS drive in Disk Utility
    2. In terminal:
      Code: 
      dd if=/usr/standalone/i386/boot1h of=/dev/disk0s2
    3. Reboot normally


HDMI Audio

I got it working!

Following toleda's excellent guides on Haswell HDMI Audio and (more specifically) HD4600+/HD4000/HD3000 Framebuffer Edits, here are the steps I took:


  1. Make sure AppleHDA.kext is patched via Multibeat
    1. Drivers > Audio > Realtek ALCxxx/Without DSDT/ALC887/888b Current v100302
    2. Build, Install
  2. Download https://github.com/toleda/audio_hdmi_8series/blob/master/audio_hdmi_hd5K-hda-90_patch.command.zip
  3. Run the patch
  4. Download https://github.com/toleda/graphics_...aphics_intel_hd5k-azul-a-90_patch.command.zip
  5. Run the patch
  6. Restart
  7. (Following the SSDT guide) Download https://github.com/toleda/audio_hdm.../audio_ssdt-hdmi-ami_hd5k-amd-nvidia-2_v2.zip
  8. Extract and copy SSDT-1.aml to /Extras/SSDT.aml
  9. Add the DropSSDT boot flag to /Extras/org.chameleon.Boot.plist:

  10. Rebuild Kernel Cache with DPCIManager.
  11. Restart and :headbang:


Updating to 10.9.3

I was able to successfully update to 10.9.3 (note, initial install was 10.9.1) following these steps:

  1. Repair permissions
  2. Update to 10.9.3 via App Store
  3. Reboot
  4. Run Multibeast
    1. Drivers > Audio > Realtek ALCxxx/Without DSDT/ALC887/888b Current v100302
    2. Drivers > Disk > TRIM Enabler > 10.9.x TRIM Patch
    3. Install
  5. Repair permissions and reboot. After reboot, audio was not working. To fix:
  6. Patch with audio_hdmi_hd5K-hda-90_patch.command
  7. Patch with graphics_intel_hd5k-azul-a-90_patch.command
  8. Repair permissions and reboot

How does the 4600 works?. In my build everything works but YouTube videos are slow and jerky

YouTube videos at full 1080p look pretty great. They're not perfect, but unless I'm watching slower videos (this one is a good example) and really looking for issues, it's hard to notice.

Your post helped me a lot with my build, I have the same motherboard but my CPU is I7K

Sound worked with these settings for Multibeast
Drivers > Audio > Realtek ALCxxx > Without DSDT > ALC892
Drivers > Audio > Realtek ALCxxx > Without DSDT > HDAEnabler

Had to add
<key>IGPlatformID</key>
<string>0C260000</string

to fix the "white noise" start up screen

Dealing with shutdown and restart issues right now
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now updated to 10.9.3. I had to remove some files and install the same drivers as before sound and wifi.

I had the same white noise issue, but I don't recall having ever done anything to fix it. At one point I had applied some patches in MaciASL and it went away, but I can't say for certain what I did or if that was even the fix. :beachball: Glad you were able to find a definite solution, though!

Well, you can try it out, is very easy, just edit Org.chameleon.Boot.plist and add thos lines.


I'm having trouble shutting down or restarting, any ideas? Every time I have to reboot or shutdown the computer goes black or some weird text,so i have to reset or turn off, causing corruption to the disk
 
Hi,

I did the same build a few weeks ago with positive results although I did not use the HDMI output, I added a GeForce 8400 GS card. It's a nice build especially if you're on a budget and just want to surf the web and do light work.

What model name and Identifier you used? Are you using Mac Pro 3, 1? Everything including sleep worked on this setting.

I was meaning that I had the same issue with the static noise, but the it cleared up with seemingly no intervention on my part. It might have been during kext patching, but I'm not sure.

Sorry to hear that. I haven't had any problems with shutting down or restarting. I'm not knowledgeable in troubleshooting that kind of thing, but I guess I'd start by verifying your BIOS settings, making sure you got everything set up properly in Multibeast, etc.

Oh, and I just noticed that you had this setting for Multibeast:

Drivers > Audio > Realtek ALCxxx > Without DSDT > ALC892

You said you had the same motherboard, right? If you've got the GA-H87M-HD3 you should probably be using ALC887/888b Current v100302, since the H87M-HD3 has the 887 codec, not 892.

Yeah, I went with MacPro 3,1. That was the default, anyway, and it seems to be working great!

  • It's probably the patching
  • Restart and shutdown was all my fault. I was impatient and didn't give the black screens enough time to finish their tasks, thinking the cpu went to a weird power management status
  • The sound worked with those settings, will try your suggestion , I'm not finished yet, still experimenting

Also updated to 10.9.3, had some issues with some files, but it seems the graphics performance it's much better
