Been wanting to build a CustoMac for over a year now - just got around to it after being sick of my MBP with integrated graphics. Setup went as smooth as butter.. a few adjustments here and there in the BIOS and MultiBeast, but I pretty much did everything according to Tony's similar build. I based this build off of the March 2014 buyer's guide mATX.

Everything is faster than I need it, and I'm really happy with it! I'd recommend this setup for a mostly plug-n-play (thanks to the DSDT-Free motherboard and optimized MultiBeast settings) build.

MultiBeast settings

I pretty much used the same settings that Tony did in his similar build.

Update 3/31/14: Was having issues with no sound after waking from sleep. I saw a thread where people had similar problems. I downloaded Multibeast 6.1.0 from the Archive as recommended and installed the ALC892 codec from there, and it solved the problem.

Update 4/28/14: I added NVRAM file to Extras/Modules to fix iMessages. Also added two 120MM fans - one at the bottom for intake and another at the top for exhaust. That should be it for now! Next up I'll probably get a liquid CPU cooler.

Did you use the same MultiBeast configuration as tonymacx86? ...and his .mb file? If not, please post your MultiBeast configuration screen snapshot and .mb file. TIA. Good write-up, BTW.

Thanks! Edited and updated - I was having the "audio cutting out after waking from sleep on Mavericks problem". Installed the ALC892 codec from Multibeast 6.1.0 and it solved the issue.

I couldn't get my build to work, after several tries it keeps freezing, crashing, some apps won't launch...

Congrats! It doesn't get a lot of love here, but the i5 is more than capable, and my similar build also very solid. I haven't bothered with the graphics card though, presume that makes gaming (which I never get around to) pretty awesome.

...but the i5 is more than capable...
I concur. I read somewhere that the i5 K processor is a gamer's processor. (I'm not a gamer.) The i5 K meets 98% of my needs for computing.

My build is coming next week and is basically the same, I only have MSI N760 and I have a Xeon E3-1230v3.
Could you please provide more info about the BIOS version and settings? my plan is to first update to the latest BIOS from Gigabyte, then go with everything.
Also, I plan to install using 1333 MHz and then go to 1600 MHz memory clock. Did you do the same? your Geekbanch score seems low for a i5-4670K, I would have expected something more 14k (or maybe I'm just confusing with i7s).

Thanks.

Gaming has been awesome on it! I've been able to run any game I can throw at it (given the limited OSX games library on Steam), including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Portal 2, Rust, etc.

Let's see, latest updates: I added NVRAM file to Extras/Modules to fix iMessages. Also added to 120MM fans - one at the bottom for intake and another at the top for exhaust. That should be it for now! Next up I'll probably get a liquid CPU cooler.

BIOS settings are using optimized settings based off of the 10.9 Installation guide along with X.M.P. Memory Profile set to to Profile1, and I'm running BIOS version F6.

I built it and installed with 1600 MHz memory, so not sure on the 1333 MHz. Also, if you run into any install issues, try some of the various Chimera boot flags.

I'm installing.

Question: how did you mount the PSU? the Define Mini has an opening below the PSU, so the fan can be placed either sucking air from the inside or sucking air from the bottom.
If it sucks from the bottom, it is ok only when it runs, but at low power (below 40%) my fan is not spinning (Corsair RM550) and the natural convection does not work very well.
But if I place it with the fan opening inside the case, the natural convection improves when the fan is not spinning, but as soon as it starts, the air circulation gets inverted, because at that point the fan pushes outside.
