I am very excited about my new build and I would highly recommend similar build for anyone looking to upgrade. And who knows, it might just give you the courage to try a UEFI boot machine via UniBeast/Clover!
Well this upgrade all started with a trip to the local TD store! I noticed they had one Gigabyte Z87X-UD5H in-stock so I ran over to take a look. Of course it was a REV 1.0 and I wasn’t sure if it had the C2 Stepping South-bridge Chip. NO one on the internet seemed to know which Gigabyte boards actually have the C2 Stepping? (Possibly the REV1.1 so I decided to pass) While at the store I saw they had three Asus Maximus VI Hero motherboards... So I went home to start researching the Asus Maximus VI Hero boards because I knew about NO Legacy Boot Issue on non-Gigabyte Z87 boards and found this guide: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks-desktop-guides/116466-guide-asus-maximus-vi-hero-build.html. Thank you, RWB!!!
The next thing I researched was if these boards had C2 chip and even this was extremely murky to say the least! However I found some posts online that people received C2 chips with the Part No: 90MB0FU0-M0AAY0 (Tiger Direct only had this Part No. btw) VS 90MB0FU0-M0AAY5 (Supposed to end in M0AAY5 for C2 chip) but M0AAY0 the boards also built AFTER October 2013 also appeared to have the C2 chip. The boards TD had were build in January 2014, so I took a chance and bought one figuring I would return if it did not have a C2 ship, but it did! WIN!!!
Now the unfamiliar part for me, getting OS X installed and then to boot via UEFI BIOS
I only WANT boot into OS X now-a-days, no need for Windows except at work!
Asus M6H motherboards BIOS is unlocked and so NO PmpPatching is Needed.
I did all the following step on my existing hackintosh:
First step is to follow kduvernay guide: http://www.tonymacx86.com/alternate-bootloaders/113679-using-unibeast-create-clover-installer.html. Once again, thank you kduvernay![/B] This is exactly the same as making a normal UniBeast installer, except you select GUID vs MBR during partition
The rest is the same as UniBeast creation...
After UniBeast completes, download Clover here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cloverefiboot/
Run Clover.
Then install Clover, make sure you change the installer location to the USB drive that you loaded Unibeast on.
Select the following options in Clover:
When finished selecting options Click Install, when the Clover install completes you'll see a mounted partition appear on your desktop called: EFI
Open the EFI folder on desktop then navigate to EFI/Clover/kexts and Copy your FakeSMC and Ethernet kexts to the 10.9 folder.
At this point load spare files/tools on a Spare USB Drive as a backup:
NOTE: Trick to Finding Your kexts before start
From Finder, Navigate to top of screen click: (or Go -> Go to Folder...)
TYPE: /System/Library/Extensions then click Go
See Example Pic of folder with your .kexts
It’s time to install Mavericks from your UniBeast/Clover USB drive to your Box.
Insert the USB drive in the new box, select the UEFI: USB drive on boot up.
Next use the arrow keys to select OSX Installer, press the space bar then select Boot Mac OS X
Then you will get to the Install OS X continue screen, select: Utilities, Disk Utility. Make sure the disk you are installing Mavericks to in partitioned (same as UniBeast directions) once complete close Disc Utility and then select the HDD you just ran Disc Utility on.
After Mavericks loads on second boot, once again select UEFI: USB to get back into Clover, this time select the drive that installed OS X press space bar, select: Boot Mac OS X
Now you will boot into Mavericks!
Run MultiBeast Settings
At this point you will need to install Clover to your New Mavericks HDD, just repeat the steps above when installing Clover to your USB drive except this time select your Mavericks HDD verses USB drive.(select same settings as before)
Select the following options in Clover:
There is No Need to move any of your kexts over to the Clover EFI partition.
Now Eject/Unplug USB drive you installed Clover/Unibeast/OS X from, then reboot your new box. YOU MUST NOW Change a couple BIOS Settings before you will be able into Mavericks via UEFI. (On Reboot Hit F8 to enter Bios and make these changes)
Last step is Totally Optional
If you don’t want to stop at Clover every time you reboot, make the following change.
Download Clover Configurator here:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/alternate...user-clover-plz-read-configuring-clover.html
Once you open Clover Config go to the Boot Tab (On Top) and change boot time from 5 secs to 0 secs.
*Recommend that you use a USB keyboard and Mouse, I had a PS2 Keyboard installed and got stuck in Clover I think, because I didn’t have a PS2 kext file. When I plugged in an USB keyboard the problem went away instantly.
I can’t describe how happy I am with my New Build, it came out great and the UEFI boot speeds amazing
