I've run into a problem this week where all my home directory permissions/ACLs got screwed up, and I came across an article that said this is happening frequently in Mavericks. The preferred method for fixing this is to go into recovery mode (command + r) when booting, and run Reset Password from terminal. We basically have Unibeast as the recovery mode, but I came across this thread http://www.tonymacx86.com/wiki/index.php/UniBeast from 2 1/2 years ago that shows how to install a recovery partition, should you not have a USB drive large enough. It hasn't been updated for Mavericks, and I was wondering if it still applies.

Also, if it does, would it show up in the boot loader, or do you need to do the Command + r command from when you boot up?

I have the exact same problem and also need the recovery partition.
I've created an 8Gb partition on my boot drive to hold it and I've successfully restored the mountain lion recovery image to it but I only get grey screens with digital corruption on them.

Any ideas?

EDIT:

I managed to install an official Mavericks recovery partition using Joel Bruner's Mavericks updated script here:
http://www.brunerd.com/blog/software/
You need the Mavericks installer from the app store and the Lion Recovery Update here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1464

That works successfully and I can tick 'Back to My Mac' in iCloud but Chimera can't see this partition.

Is there a way to get Chimera to see this partition?
I've heard Clover works but I'm scared to try another boot loader as my system is working nice right now.

TijuanaKez,
Very interesting. Any idea if it works with Mavericks?

Before I saw this today, I had used Unibeast and installed the install app on a 6.5 GB partition. I edited org.chameleon.plist in the recovery partition to reflect my boot needs, and it boots just fine. Chameleon does see this partition, but I actually would prefer not to see it unless I had a key sequence to reveal it.

If Chimera doesn't see the partition using your method, do you get into using the option + r method?
