The GTX 650 Ti Thread

Hey everyone!

I am having an issue with my 650 Ti that I think some people may never run into. I am using both Aperture and Final Cut X on my computer. After about 20-30 min of use like crops, edits, effects, etc.. The system will freeze up. It will sometimes bounce back and I can use it, mostly the beach ball of death never ends. I can't get the dock or force quit menu to come up but things like the eject button on my mac keyboard works (so its not a full on panic).

I have the 650ti with the GA-Z77X-UD5H motherboard. i7 3770, 8gb ram (1 slot).

Here is a snippet from my console logs:

EDIT: Looks like I have a possible solution. Other cards are saying try npci=0x3000 in your kernel flags. Well I booted with it, and tried hard to make it lock up in Aperture (doing a bunch of blurring, undoing them and doing them again) and Final Cut X (scrub through the effect previews, insert them, move the main work window while playing content). All seems to be well. Fingers crossed!

Please help!

Thank you,

I have a list at home with the steps I used to setup my GTX 650Ti.

I've run into two KP incidents that I have work arounds for for other 650Ti users. Will get to that when I'm home and I'll share the link to the thread here.

good day guys , I also want to start a project hackintosh.

In a few days I buy a asus maximus gene V i5 3570k with 16gb of ram.

I would like to know from you if the ports usb2 and usb3, the audio and lan, runs fine under ML ?

How video card I'm thinking of taking a ASUS GTX660 TI-DC2-2GD5

What do you think? There are problems in audio droppin?

I would like to use this PC as a DAW.

Hi all, my build is very similar to http://www.tonymacx86.com/golden-bu...ip-build-ga-z77n-wifi-i5-3570k-hd-6870-a.html, just core i7 and gigabyte GTX 650 ti

I've been using the nvidia drivers and they seemed to work, games, luxmark and most normal OpenGL stuff was fine, but I was having random screen freezes, forcing a restart. Console showed the "channel exception" error lots of people have been having.

Another proof that something wasn't quite working was trying to use QuartzComposer "Mesh Filter" example, which uses vertex shaders. This would cause the app to crash.

I was about to return the GPU for a GTX 670 (quite expensive), but I decided to try this first, the supposedly updated drivers apple released:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/os-x-updates/79108-macbook-air-macbook-pro-update-2-0-a.html

And it worked! So far no freezes, and Quartz Composer's example "Mesh Filter" works fine. The rest continues to work as expected.

The only issue so far is a weird glitch at startup, where the screen is all black and there's a large white rectangle top-left of the screen; but it lasts a second and then you are brought to the normal desktop.

"About this Mac" doesn't report the card being a NVIDIA GTX 650ti anymore, it reports "d14p2-30" which seems to be the model # for that card.
OpenGL Extensions Viewer reports it's a pre-release driver: "NVIDIA GeForce Pre-Release d14p2-30 OpenGL Engine"
The Cuda preferences pane reports it's driver version "GPU Driver Version: 8.6.22 304.10.20f04"

But it works like a charm for me.
Glad I don't have to return the card.

Maybe 10.8.3 will bring a final release?

I have the same error when for instance using Safari (after about 30 minutes of use)… But I already have the "npci=0x3000" flag, can you please tell me which config you use (MacPro3,1 ?) and what are the others Kernel flags you use ?

I was in that situation too, and the "npci=0x3000" flag didn't do anything for me. What fixed it was installing the 10.8.2 update that Apple released and then pulled.

http://www.tonymacx86.com/os-x-updates/79108-macbook-air-macbook-pro-update-2-0-a.html

The actual update I installed is this one: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1603 as the original one was pulled.

and I did it bc I read about it in this thread: http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/73081-testing-thread-geforce-gtx-660-a-11.html#post485907

Using the Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 650 Ti, and these drivers http://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-304.00.05f02-driver.html

This is what I get
Unigine 45fps and 1134 scores.

Makes me wonder if you have those same drivers.

(OH, second thought,, mine was running at 1680x1050 res)

I now have an EVGA 650 Ti 01G-P4-3652-KR) running my Thunderball build. (Amazon || Newegg)

I following tonymacx86's guide here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/os-x-updates/79108-macbook-air-macbook-pro-update-2-0-a.html

Below is the Uniengine Heaven benchmark which was really fun to watch for a first timer with this program. The results are in the same class as GTX 460 and 550 Ti.

Many thanks armadillu ! I'll try to install this update as soon as possible and I'll tell you if that works for me…

So… As I said in the thread http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-lion-desktop-support/78875-getting-650ti-working.html, I successfullly installed the update, and now have the new nvidia drivers (8.6.22 304.10.20f04), but I still get those "NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception!" errors… What's more, I can't use Unigine Heaven, because I always get this error before it ends (I've never been able to get to the end of the test !). Anyone has an idea ? I have installed CUDA drivers, can it be involved, causing this error ?
