Re: Stork's Sandy Bridge Z68X-UD3H - i7-2600K - HD3000 - Lion

Stork:
I have a question about the Wireless Keyboard and Mouse.

http://1saleaday.com/ has the Logitech MK710 2.4GHz Wireless Keyboard Mouse Combo for sale

This uses the Logitech Unifying Receiver, which allows you to connect multiple Logitech devices to the same receiver. The software which comes with has a MAC version though they do not list it as Lion Compatible.

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/494/6254? ... it=&osid=9

I am hoping this will work with the CustoMacs and I do not need to get a blue tooth receiver just for the wireless keyboard/mice. Your thoughts?

Re: Stork's Sandy Bridge Z68X-UD3H - i7-2600K - HD3000 - Lion

This may be a dumb question since I'm new here but will this build drive 2 monitors or would I need a video card for that? Thx.

You will enjoy it immensely. :headbang:

I used Arctic Silver 5, but you can use the stuff that comes with CPU cooler. However, the prep is important. See this web page for instructions:

I don't have any experience with that receiver/KB/mouse. However, if it's anything like the Logitech Control Center for my old Logitech receiver/KB/Mouse it will work in Lion (when I updated from a SL build). However, the one time I did a clean install with SL and Lion, I didn't load anything until I got to Lion. The LCC wouldn't load because it didn't recognize Lion. So, since Lion appears not to have significant changes, I right clicked on the installer, selected "Show Package Contents" and found the raw installer which is called "LCC Installer" in the MacOS folder. Double click on LCC Installer resulted in the LCC installing fine. It works. YMMV.

HD 3000 will work with two monitors. You'll have to use the DVI and HDMI ports. Dunno if the DisplayPort will work. VGA will not work in OS X. So, if your monitor has only DVI inputs, get an HDMI to DVI from someplace like monoprice.com.

Be sure to define your system as a Mac Mini in MultiBeast.

Re: Stork's Sandy Bridge Z68X-UD3H - i7-2600K - HD3000 - Lion

Also is there any way of knowing if the future ivy bridge processors will work with this mobo?

Re: Stork's Sandy Bridge Z68X-UD3H - i7-2600K - HD3000 - Lion

Do I have to check MacMini because of the Intel HD 3000 Graphics? Or can I also check Mac Pro? Is it advisable to check Fake SMC? I think this only makes sense for Monitoring with iStatMenus or is there another reason to check it?

No, only the LGA 1155 socket processors.

Check Mac Mini for two monitors if you're using HD 3000. I've run the default Mac Pro 3,1 w/o a problem on a single monitor.

FakeSMC is loaded by default, IIRC. See the MultiBeast "Features" guide that comes in the MultiBeast zip file. I believe it states that it's the only kext required. So, I've always assumed that MultiBeast adds it whether you pick it or not.

A lot of your questions are general in nature and not specific to this build. So, I recommend you post your general installation or MultiBeast questions in the 10.6 or 10.7 Support forum sections. You'll get more eyes on your questions and receive more insights. I'm not trying to chase you away, but trying to bring awareness to your options. ;)

Remember, MultiBeast has two versions - v3.9.x for Snow Leopard and v4.x for Lion. Use the right one. Use iBoot for Snow Leopard and rBoot for Lion.

Re: Stork's Sandy Bridge Z68X-UD3H - i7-2600K - HD3000 - Lion

Stork,

When I go to the DSDT downloads page, I follow the drop downs through for this particular board, and it looks like this:

>Gigabyte>Socket 1155>Z68>GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3

then on the fifth drop-down, there are four choices:

F9
F8
F4
F3

Which do I choose?

Re: Stork's Sandy Bridge Z68X-UD3H - i7-2600K - HD3000 - Lion

Wait until you get your system together and boot into the BIOS (Delete key). It will tell you then. Probably, F9. But, it could be an earlier version, though I doubt it since F9 has been out several months and the retail supply has probably caught up to F9. If it is an earlier version, update the BIOS to v9 as I outlined above.

Re: Stork's Sandy Bridge Z68X-UD3H - i7-2600K - HD3000 - Lion

Aviat72,

I'm using the Logitech K750 wireless mac keyboard which just came out in August and uses the unifying receiver. It works great on Lion (unibeast/i52500k/z68x-ud3h). I highly highly recommend this keyboard if you haven't bought one yet and want wireless. Then I also ordered Logitech's "couch mouse" which will utilize the same receiver, that should be here next week.

Keyboard: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/keyboards ... d-k750-mac

Here's a local review of the keyboard:

There was no thermal paste with the CPU cooler. :? Luckily my wife is out shopping and can get me some.
