    Trouble getting iBoot to work

Yet another newbie here. I posted in the iBoot forum, but there doesn't seem to be very much traffic there, so I'm updating my post here, since I'm really trying to get to Snow Leopard and ultimately, ML.

My system is a newly assembled CustomMac Mini: i3-3225, GA-H77N-WIFI, SanDisk SSD, Sony OptiArc CDROM . I've followed all the recommended BIOS settings from these pages and was hoping to follow beelzebozo's video here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/340-snow-l...deo-guide.html .

When I downloaded iBoot, I unzipped it and burned the .ISO file to a CD using a Windows 7 program called Power2Go. Initially I just did this as a data file, and this disk does not boot; I just get a request to insert a bootable disk and hit any key, which just then loops. So, OK, I think - I need to make sure this is a bootable disk and discover that option in Power2Go. Initially, I did this in a way which resulted in three files on my CD: the iBoot Ivy Bridge .ISO file, and files labeled BOOTCTG.BIN and BOOTIMG.BIN . Later, I realized I was using Power2Go incorrectly and created another boot disk with the two files BOOTCTG.BIN and BOOTIMG.BIN, the later file having the same size as the original iBoot .ISO file.

Now when I use this latter disk, there is a flurry of activity on the CD drive and then I get a blank screen with just a cursor, which does not respond to any keyboard commands except ctrl+alt+del, whereupon it reboots. This second re-boot (holding F12 to get boot menu) leads to the dead cursor again, but this time ctrl+alt+del doesn't even do anything and I need to power down.

So, am I making a proper iBoot CD? Or should I be looking elsewhere?

You don't want to use iBoot with the H77 in your profile - use iBoot Ivy Bridge.

    First off welcome -
Need to check the BIOS and make sure that the Video is pointing to the CPU HD400 - IGMP (Not PEG or BOTH) also the video ram should be set to 64 Meg ram ( the Bios may have it set higher)

Set up AHCI S3 and HPET ( HPET is somewhat given these days in new MB's) But look for it anyway. Consult the manual of the MB under the BIOS section.

When you boot from iBoot Ivy Bridge - and swap the cd to the DVD - select the Apple Install DVD - then hit space bar... the screen will open a dialog box so you can type the following

    "-v PCIRootUID=0" ( a return key is assumed here)

Once it read the DVD a lot of activity will appear on the screen - and w luck you should get to the osx INSTALLER screen and prep the drive as per the GUIDE.

If not take pics and post em

Thanks kopf. Checked all of the above - BIOS is set to internal graphics with 64M ram, AHCI and HPET, so this isn't the problem. Still no action with the iBoot Ivy Bridge disk.

What do most people use to burn the iBoot disk? I'm using this Power2Go program because it came with my Lenovo laptop. Maybe I should try something else?

For Windows I use the free util - Image Burn utility - http://www.imgburn.com/

the file we have is in compressed format and needs to be extracted - Windows 7 will do that - ( create a sub dir) and once the files are their
look for a file that has the format -" Name something . ISO "
The ISO extension is a file that can be used by a burner program like ImgBurn this is the file that you use ( w Image Burn) and the burn it to a CD - DO NOT USE DVD media / problems - use CD media.

Now about DVD drives a lot of users have issues w DVD RAM drives and other combo function drives !

Also the Drive must be SATA (IDE structure drives will not work).

What to use is a std DVD R/W drive ( u do need to write to the Drive)
the best DVD drive is Sony OptiArc unit. But others work like LG or ASUS.

Check the Buyers Guide for info and tips.

OK, sucess (so far, I'm installing the 10.6.3 disk as I type). The problem was the program I was using to burn the .ISO file was not giving me a proper disk image. For some reason I suspected this was the issue. I downloaded Image Burn and made a disk image with the .ISO file and it worked. Thanks everyone.
