Let's start with my build:

Motherboard: ASUS Z97-A
Processor: Intel i7 4790K Quad Core 4.0GHz
Cooling: Corsair H100i Liquid CPU Cooler
Graphics: Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X 3GB VRAM
RAM: Team Dark RAM 8GB (2x4GB)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB HD

I actually built my rig a year ago with the intention of running Mac OSX on it. However, I put off going through the hassle and just installed Windows. However, I recently started the process that I understandably avoided at the beginning, because it is non-stop roadblock after road block.

Most issues I've run into have had some solution or workaround that I've found online, but the latest one has me stumped. I successfully installed Snow Leopard from a retail disk and got to the desktop. However, after following the instructions here to apply the 10.6.8 combo update, my startup freezes at "[PCI configuration begin]".

The flags I am using are:
GraphicsEnabler=No (because my screen goes black if I don't)
-v

All others I have read with this problems associated it with NVIDIA cards, but I have an ATI card, so I'm not sure where to go from here.

Thank you in advance for your help!

With a R9 280X you should follow this guide :
http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-help/115818-install-bootloader-extra-efi-partition.html

For the [PCI configuration begin] issue try adding npci=0x2000 or npci=0x3000 to your boot flags.

Both npci=0x2000 and npci=0x3000 have no effect and I still get hung up at [PCI configuration begin].

When I tried to follow that guide, I got to Step 3 #4 and get a no such file or directory, since those folders do not exist in Multibeast.

PS: I also apologize if I'm making very rookie mistakes as I am new at this and I'm getting discouraged having lost about 2 days to this process with almost no progress.

MultiBeast is an application and has no folders, do you mean UniBeast ?

If so, the folders on your UniBeast flash drive are hidden - Unhide like this :
Code:
# in Terminal, assuming your Installer is named 'Installer'
sudo chflags -R nohidden /Volumes/Installer/System
sudo chflags -R nohidden /Volumes/Installer/Extra

BTW - You might find it advantageous to disconnect your discrete graphics and install using your integrated graphics.

Right, I see. I misread and thought it meant a flash drive containing the Multibeast Application. I don't think I can create a Unibeast drive because I have no mac app store or internet access in Mac OSX since I'm not able to get my Ethernet drivers working either.

The whole point of running Snow Leopard is to enable access to the App Store to download Yosemite and then you can create the UniBeast installer. But if you don't have the driver for your ethernet interface then that isn't going to work.

I am aware of that. The guide I was using suggested that I install hardware drivers after the 10.6.8 combo update, which lead me to the beginning of this thread. I tried installing my LAN drivers using Multibeast before the 10.6.8 combo update, but they didn't seem to be working since there are no LAN options in the Network Settings in System Preferences.

Am going about installing these drivers incorrectly, or is there no driver available for my motherboard?

I would suggest using this driver for your ethernet :

The readme says driver is not compatible with Snow Leopard, and it doesn't work when I install the kext.

Thank you for the timely replies by the way. I really appreciate it.

I have an old mac laptop running 10.7 that I mite dust off and see if I can set up a Unibeast with Lion (I'd skip to Yosemite, but my laptop can't run it).

There are two versions - Did you try both ?

You might also try MultiBeast for Snow Leopard and install :

Drivers & Bootloaders - Kexts & Enablers - Network - hank's AppleIntelE1000e.kext
