Hi All,

I've got an old iMac 4,1 which just sits gathering dust. It's a bit...slow, but I quite like OS X so I decided to turn my PC into a Hackintosh. I built this PC specifically to use with the Oculus Rift DK2 - and it does a fine job of that (especially FSX). I've got a few hard disks going spare, so I decided to install Snow Leopard (with a view to upgrading to Yosemite at some point).

The main thing I'd want to do is to use Garage Band, so getting my ATI 280x working properly isn't a priority (although it would be nice).

I followed the guide on here using IBoot/retail disc/MultiBeast - it boots up nicely into Snow Leopard but no matter which method I try (KextBeast or Kext Helper B7) - I cannot link to the internet via the MB's LAN socket. I've tried the driver from MultiBeast and the other apps I mentioned before to install a kext called ML_IO80211Family.kext

Everything works perfectly from within Windows 7, so I know it's not a hardware issue.

Please be gentle - I'm a Windows veteran but when it comes to OS X - I'm in the dark!

Many Thanks :)

You should be booting SL with iBoot Haswell with that Haswell H81 PCH. This should get LAN working. If it does not, try installing the Realtek RTL8xxx series kext with the Yosemite MultiBeast (I don't think the SL MultiBeast has the 8111G version supported).

I am booting that way......

I'll try the Yosemite MultiBeast

Yosemite MultiBeast refuses to work with SL.

Before it's suggested I use my old iMac to download Yosemite - it doesn't believe I upgraded it from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo (ie 32bit - 64bit) so it won't even start the download

That's not working either, but thanks anyway :)

I'm just wondering if it may be best to just stick with Windows? I'd love to have OS X of some flavor working on this PC, but it just seems like that may not be possible, sadly

Doublecheck your BIOS settings and make sure your LAN chip is enabled. Doublecheck your connections and cable to the modem and make sure they are good. If you look at the backplate next to the LAN RJ45 connector port do you see a yellow or green light with the computer powered on (doesn't have to be running the OS). One light indicates good connection from the LAN chip to the modem, 2 lights indicate the OS is connecting to the network.
