Hello I'm installing OSX on a machine I bought from a friend. He used it for a while but tried to update it and it stopped working. Here are some of the specs

Bios version 1404
bios build date 10/29/10
EC BIOS Version MBEC-0031

Processor Intel Core i5 CPU 760 @2.80 Ghz

System memory
4095

I couldn't find information in the Bios about the graphics card.
But I'm attaching some screenshots
I tried to run iBoot legacy version but it crashed

Thanks alot, Hallvardur

I used this guide http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks...ss-asus-p7p55d-e-lx-mavericks-10-9-guide.html but I get stuck on booting to the hard drive after installing OSX Mavericks
Thanks a lot, Hallvarður

I tried the iBoot and Snow Leopard DVD method as well, that's why I posted here.
However I couldn't boot from the Snow Leopard DVD, the screen went black.
This is an official Apple DVD I have, it should work...
Thanks a lot, Hallvarður

What does it look like? Grey or white with a pic of a Snow Leopard on it?
The grey discs are recovery discs from an Apple Mac and will not work for install on anything else.

Thank you for the answer

OK, first thing, checked the Asus DSDT database and you need to update to BIOS rev 1504 to match the one in the database unless you plan to use nullcpu and dsdt free.

Thanks
What is the best way to do this?
What is the difference between the two approaches?
Thanks a lot, Hallvarður

To boot without KP you need a DSDT, otherwise AppleIntelPowerManagement.kext has problems and crashes the boot. NullCPUPowerManagement.kext when installed cures this problem, but has a side effect - no power management at all, which means no speed stepping and no sleep/wake.

I would follow directions on Asus site and update the BIOS, keeping in mind that it is possible to brick the board if the BIOS upgrade fails. Not likely if you do it right and follow the directions properly, but it has been known to happen.

Alternitively, you can use NullCPU to begin with and extract and edit your own DSDT for the BIOS rev you are currently running. Once DSDT is properly extracted and edited and compiled, put it in your /Extra folder and delete NullCPU from S/L/E

Do I need to update the BIOS if I set up OSX Yosemite?
In that case, which Bios file would that be?
I'm sorry, I haven't done any changes to BIOS before.
Thanks a lot, Halvlarður
